Re: Timing Belt replacement

I think the interval is 105,000k for regular conditions, that number will be in your owners manual in the glove box. I just did mine yesterday and it had 95000 miles and no cracks or noticeable wear. Generally recommended to do the idler, tensioner and water pump on the second timing belt change. Mi...

Re: ATF change out

I did it from the top using a technique called the "Gibbons method". It was very accessible from the top. Google it.

Re: Collar sleeve damage

It won’t hurt anything, just make sure it slides on and off the bevel gear splines. If it binds, file the collar sleeve splines with a small triangular profile file so it slides on easy, also check the outside machined surface of the colllar and make sure you didn’t scratch it where the seal rides.

Re: Help choosing rear coil springs

You might want to contact Lesjofors or FCP and get the spring rates if possible, or try to find out what the stock spring rates were. I'm contemplating doing the same after just changing the fronts and wanting to order rear springs. I've always got 2 large dogs in the back but am sceptical about wha...

Re: Any subframe bushing install tips?

Here's the link to a post I did last year. No special tools required! Don't compress the feet, I have a picture of something I rigged up so that you don't compress the feet. Let me know if you have any questions. It's a nice easy job with rewarding results!https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/vi...

Re: Growling sound while driving 2006 xc70

Jack the car up, put the key in #2 position and put the car in drive. If you can spin the propshaft independent of the front wheels, the angle gear or output shaft/ collar sleeve is done. If theres play in the output shaft bearing or fluid leakage in the angle gear, its probably done or needs major ...

Re: V70 FWD occasional front suspension noise?

That's a good feeling when you can actually find a problem and fix it right away! Those Volvo spark plugs also make a big difference.

Rear struts and spring replacement with photos

I picked up some OEM struts for $100 for all four, someone had bought them for his 4C car and had them on for a week and decided to get the correct ones, I then purchased new Lesjofors standard springs for the front and rear and installed them today. There seemed to be a bit of difficulty from some ...

Re: Growling sound while driving 2006 xc70

You should'nt need to drop the downpipes to remove the propshaft or the angle gear. It's easier to remove the exhaust pipe and muffler rubber hangers and slide to exhaust to the left (driver's) side to access the propshaft and carrier bearing. BTW; check your heat shields along the length of the exh...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

I ordered up some new GKN Loebro axles for the XC. A little history; my originals failed at 240,000 Kms, I then tried 2 sets of Cardone China specials with bad results (vibration right out of the box), then got a nice set of used originals (GKN) from the auto wreckers that have been working well for...
