Re: Droopy Sun Visor

Remove the battery cable before you cut the wires to the visor. The vanity mirror is always hot, even with the key off. If the wires short out you will live in constant door chime hell until you fix it.

Re: Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850]

The spring seat of strut is most likely torn. This causes a hollow clunking.

Re: Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850]

As above, the spring seat in the first picture is broken. Second one will soon follow. Only Sachs brand from Fcp, Ipd, etc

Re: Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850]

Can you record and post a video of the clanking? The fact it happens when the car is stationary is unlikely to be the struts contributing to this. IT could well be your engine mounts are failed. Check the top and lower torque mounts if they are failed they can allow the engine to vibrate metal on me...

Re: Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850]

If there was slight cracking in the top mounts it would probably be safe to run. But based on your pictures I would not recommend it mostly on the safety side of things if it were to fail it could easily become dangerous. If there are any good parts yards around maybe you can find a decent set of fr...

Re: Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850x850]

If you can get a look at the engine model number sticker you will have your answer. The GLT might actually have a low pressure turbo in 1997 and at that point I'm not sure if the engines are compatible or not. The NA engines have very high compression ratio and I think they lowered that for the LPT ...

Re: Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850x850]

A 97 base engine (non-turbo) will not work in a 97 GLT (low pressure turbo) car. You can't go the other way, either.

Re: Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850xs70]

If the '98 S70 is a N/A (non turbo) car it is the same engine and will bolt right up. The differences between the 850 and the 98 S/V series is cosmetic. Under the hood they are the same other than some fuse box refinements. Starting in '99 everything is dramatically different but the '98 will work f...

Re: Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850xs70]

97 base 850 and 98 base S70 have almost exactly the same engine, you're in luck! As long as it is not a S70 GLT (low pressure turbo) or a S70 T5 (high pressure turbo), your 850 engine will drop right in. Plus the S70 has several body changes that can be a nice change if you have been in an 850 forev...

Re: Removing cheapo CV joint stuck in transmission.. [850]

And I did mean to say that too: clever solution, well done.
