I found this axle on eEuroparts. Looks like there is a top (lid) that is fitted on the axle before the boot goes on. In any case I've never seen this type of axle on an 850 and as far as I can see this type is fitted to later model Volvos. I assume it is the inner boot on the drivers side axle. gkn ...

The severely discharged battery may be working the guts out of the alternator (pushed to maxium output). Put the battery on a battery charger for at least 72 hours, then try again. Sas solenoid must be connected and sas valve plugged or removed and manifold port plugged.
Other than that....cut the red wire from air pump relay(positive feed for air pump).
If all above is covered....than there is a possibility that you fried a diode while soldering.

Parking brake cable. It should be mounted to the car, possibly the bracket just above it. Being as rusted as that it is almost certain the inner cable is rusted solid. It is a bit of a job to replace them but not especially difficult. It requires the center console to be removed and the rear carpets...

Looks like a parking brake cable. Spray some penetrating oil in the crack dnd wrap it with tape to keep the water out. If it freezes up you need to replace the brake cable, an ugly job
