Re: How important is this gasket? Topic is solved

Its a big V 8 with a carb huge flat intake manifold next to the carb is a large depression that held about 8 ounces of liquid gas merrily boiling from the heat of the engine. ...

In line with RickHaleparker - Have you removed the serp belt and manually spun each rotating component? Agree with this! I just did the same for a what I thought was a noisy power steering pump. Pulled the belt off , started it and no noise. I hand spun the tensioner pulley and it was that , or its...

You are on the right track to look at the position of the floor latch. I would loosen it up then figure out the best position then tighten it back up. Sometimes the latch needs to move in the opposite direction from what you might expect. Also check the little rubber bumpers located out at the side...

Re: Volvo S80 T6 1999 bad start, bad idle after overhaul
Hi all, I try to update this thread until the solution is found. Update on the gearbox: it turns out that I mixed up the 2 thinner pipes that you can find under the oil pan, leading to the accumulators. They fit either way, somehow I mismatched them. When I restored it, the gearbox went forward and...

Yes, updating to the RN style cooler setup is documented. You need the pan, the cooler, and all the lines hoses from a 99+. this includes turbo return lines I believe. Ford specc'ed sodium filled valves for the 427 SOHC back in 1965 ! actually I think the intakes were hollow , it said more about the state of valve spring tech than anything else though
I think a decent valve job, a proper seat cut to transfer the heat would make the sodium un-needed

did you get one sided frictions for fourth gear? My kit came with 2 sided frictions and I had to reuse the old frictions.
If you look at your pic of the three valves the body of the valve looks the same on 2 and 3 , and the 1st one looks like it wouldnt work with the inside switch

LUGNUTS??????
In my experience Volvos carry a curse on lugnuts for me. The S80 they would always stick and not want to come off , The S70's they loosen and fall out .

there are different channel plate gaskets , or it could be something like a damaged plate gasket allowing pressure into a part of the valve body that is not supposed to see pressure

Hi Bronco, Thanks for your reply. I do that sometimes.. I'm not sure how reliable the fault codes of the ECM are, but the ECU for the trans had no fault codes, so I wonder if that would help. Even with the intake off and the thermostat housing off it still is a stupid way to bolt that water neck to the block. You practically need to invent a new tool to get the upper left bolt . Re: Oil Leak
I have an S80 parts car here that If I jump started it and pulled the oil dipstick out would shoot a plume of white water vapor once it warmed up. This car would force cam seals out of the bores and create oil leaks very easily . Generally too much pressure in the crank case would pop those first in...

Did you do the glove test on the dipstick tube?
as far as the oil seperator I clean them all the time , well I mean whener I get one off I clean it out , if you take it off look inside the block too , you might be able to poke around in there and haul out a lot of gunk.

The next thing to go in is the shell then the assembly containing the 3rd clutch and input clutch plus the 2 sprags and the sungear. The way I did it was to put the 3rd clutches in then the snap ring then drop the 2 sprags in and use them to line up the 3rd clutch frictions then assemble the input f...

As stated early on - it is easier to drop the parts in relative to sliding them in. Many, myself included, managed to slide them in. I recall using a long straight flat bar to keep things (shell) aligned (parallel), but as more parts go in it can be removed. Do you have the main shaft installed? If...

this transmission is not meant to be reassembled in the horizontal position. the shell falls off to one side and won't slot in to the second clutch. Ideally the whole assembly would be slid in as one unit but the reverse band doesn't really want to go in after the fact. I wonder if the servo piston ...

Re: Coronavirus Thread
I agree that daily new cases and deaths have delays in reporting. No way around that with the numbers involved. However, the lag should be at least somewhat consistent and averaging over time will give trends. I have been reporting 5 day moving averages. My state is using 7 day moving average for m...

Re: Coronavirus Thread
The number of new cases per day means very little. Some people are still waiting 7 days for results. If they were a week into it by the time they got a test then they could get the results on day 14 ! The other thing is much increased daily testing numbers and lower percentage of positives. Early on...
