I'm not sure if what Matthew said is true or not but I do know that tires wont protect you from a lightning strike. Lighting will happily jump the gap from metal to ground tires or no tires. The only thing that 'protects' you is the metal shell of the vehicle. A convertible offers little or no prote...

It's static electricity and it's hell in he winter time, at least here in Pittsburgh. Now for the trick: From the time you open the door and before you start sliding on your butt to get out, hold a metal part of the car door as you get out. It can be painted and as long as it's metal you'll never ge...

Thanks guys, I may try the idle controller just for fun. I cleaned it up a little when I did the PCV system but I was afraid to spray to much cleaner at it. So that could be the problem.

Thanks again

High RPM Rev at Startup

Whenever the car (1997 850 T-5, 115k) is cold and I start it, it revs up to about 2k and slowly backs down to around 800 RPM. It doesn't do this everytime but nearly 95% of the time. I haven't had the car that long and it's always acted this way. I'm worried about extra engine wear since its not pri...

MIJ, I have a 97 850 T-5 that I was able to reset CEL on using a $39 code reader that I purchased at Advanced Auto.
I was able to reset transmission and MAF, and throttle position sensor codes.
Are we not talking about the same kind of codes?

The port is located behind the gear selector in the center console, under the ashtray. There is a small cover that holds coins that if you remove you will see the port. Most code readers will have a function to allow you to reset the CEL. They also normally come with a book or CD to explain what the...

If they tires are the exact same size /width then I'd go with Volvo's suggested tire pressure.

The only other thing that I can suggest is to 'shut down the system', i.e. remove the negative battery cable for a few hours.
This should reset the computer(s) and might be worth a shot.
Make sure that you have your radio code as you will need it once you reconnect the battery.

I had leased a new V70 back in 1999. The car was a non turbo model. When the lease was up I ended up getting a Saab 9-3 SE convertible which I still own. Recently I had more need to haul things so I picked up a 1997 850 wagon T-5 model. Aside from the obvious difference in power, the 850 has way mor...
