Re: AWD Fuel Sender/Level Wiring

Update: We had a 2000 XC70 show up in the auto wreckers, I grabbed both fuel sending units from it. I confirmed by a multimeter, the fuel senders are wired in series, each sender goes from roughly 0 ohms (empty) to 150 ohms (full), for a added resistance of 0 ohms (empty), and 300 ohms (full). There...

I have been noticing my 98 V70 AWD has had a clicking noise when applying the brakes in a normal situation, and I only notice it under about 50KM/h. If I panic stop, it doesn't seem to do it. Might not be your issue, but I had another type of vehicle where I installed a higher flow fuel pump, and I later found out that it flowed more than the regulator could regulate. With a normal functioning rad cap, those hoses will be under 21psi of pressure. 2/3 the pressure that your tires have. I'd be more looking into the other car on why it's not building pressure in the cooling system.

Defective new PCV?

Back when I got my car in the summer, I replaced the entire PCV system before driving it due to some popped out cam seals indicating a problem with it. I used the IPD kit, all went well, I did the glove test afterwards, and it never did suck it in, nor did it fully inflate it. I also connected a lon...

Re: V70 AWD Ride height

I have not touched my front suspension, from what I can tell, it looks stock. Just got back from a highway drive, just me in the car, from the center of my rear rim to the bottom of the fender, I am at 14". Tires are 15" with P195/65R15 winter tires.

Re: V70 AWD Ride height

My original rear nivomats where shot when I got this car, there was no dampening left, and it was obviously bottoming out, then bouncing up over any bump. I lucked out and got a pair of 2000 V70R nivomats that were not and still are not leaking from an auto wreckers. I also later replaced the rear s...

V70 AWD Ride height

Does anybody know the standard ride height for a 98 V70 AWD (non XC or R), with the Nivomat rear suspension? Preferably from center of wheel to fender. My rear suspension seems really stiff in the back, I had 2 adults in the back and they claimed they can feel every pebble in the road as I drove. Un...

Seals were Volvo, they didvseat properly. Original leak was from the axle seal, looks to have been damaged from installing the axle. I made sure not to do that.

Trans leak through AWD Collar

A few months ago, I replaced my AWD collar and both of the RH transmission seals due to a leaking RH axle output seal. Now I am leaking there again, it has been a slow leak, and lately, we have had a real cold snap for 2 weeks (-25C as a high), and the leak has really increased. I am wondering if it...

Removing RH muffler AWD

I have a 98 V70 AWD, it has the dual mufflers on the back, where it goes into the left one, then out across the car to the right muffler which has the exhaust tip on it. Has anybody removed the right hand muffler and put a straight pipe in its place? Does it sound good? I have a 00 V70R dual exhaust...

Re: P80 Fuel Pressure Regulator Thread - Function Variations Sources DEC 2019

I haven't looked closely at the Volvo Pressure regulator on my 98, it's in a dumb spot. But the fuel pressure regulator usually keeps the same fuel pressure relative to manifold pressure, thus keeping the same injector flow rate. Usually most vehicles are at the 40PSI range with the pump running, an...

Re: Popping in front right

That very well could be, I was leaning towards the subframe shifting. I was going to try hitting the mounts with a socket to see if they were loose. This car has sat for awhile, I am guessing 8 years or so, so the rubbers are drying out from the sitting. I'm hoping the rears are good, since I am AWD...

Volvo probably buys from whoever makes the most financial sense at the time I bet. If one company cant fulfill the order, they go to the next.

Popping in front right

98 V70 AWD, I have been getting a popping noise coming from the front right, it can be felt through the passenger side floor according to my wife. Here is the odd part, it only happens under braking or left turns, and not consistently, sometimes it will only do it once in a day, and other times mult...

Re: ICE vs. EV Poll

I am up in Canada, and EV's make up less than 1% of the cars here, including Prius'es and that type. The big issue up here is the cold. Batteries loose their output capacity as the temperature gets colder, which reduces range, add on top of that a need for a heater to clear the windows, and that tak...

Re: Speed meter 15% too optimistic Topic is solved

I'll just add in here that my 98 V70 AWD speedometer is also greatly optimistic, it's roughly 10-15% fast. I have P195/65R15 tires installed, the odometer however reads slightly low, maybe 5% slow?

Headlight wipers not parking

Every once and awhile my driver's side headlight wiper won't park in the correct position, usually about half way up. But next time when I turn the car on it will return to the correct park position. I was going to remove the motors and inspect and lube the geartrain, but I have to move the condense...

Re: Steering rack Leak AWD Compatibility

The rack doesn't look too bad to get out, I changed one on a Focus a few months ago, was a similar ordeal. I originally thought it was my power steering fitting o-rings on the rack, I changed them out about a month ago, I think it slowed down, the return line seal was damaged and the fitting was loo...

Steering rack Leak AWD Compatibility

My steering rack is leaking out of the steering shaft. The car is a 98 V70 AWD, and finding a used rack will be near impossible. Looking online, it looks like 98-99 AWD racks are the same. I'm planning on rebuilding mine in the spring, but wondering if a leaking rack is common, and something a rebui...

I work on Volvo's for work. The semi trucks anyways. 13L and 16L diesel engines, 12 speed AMT auto transmissions or 18 speed manuals, big sleepers. Some parts are the same on my V70, leki the turn signal stalk.

When I got my car in July with 232,700km on it, the awd driveshaft was still installed. I realized the front CV boot was gone, heard it's from the location to the downpipe. Regular AWD Cars

Were the regular P80 AWD cars popular, as in many sold? I have a 98 GLT AWD, and I have not seen many others with a standard AWD, just the R version or XC version. From what I have read, the R and regular AWD have the same suspension in North America, but the same LPT engine and transmission as the ...

Re: Let's see your Volvo (The Photo Thread)

I just joined, picked me up a 98 V70 GLT AWD back in July. Its 428 - Coral Red Metallic in color, with 3980 Taupe Leather interior, it had 232,700KM when I bought it, now has just over 237,000KM. I bought it with a bunch of oil leaks, I thought it was just one large leak, but turned out it had 2 lar...

Re: Oil Leak from Turbo Inlet

I doubted my PTC clean when I changed the PCV system a few months ago, I had a spare I pulled from the junkyard laying around too. There was not much oil at all in the intake, the turbo actually looked clean and not oily, PTC was clean. But I can see where the hose clamp had pinched the hose to the ...

I had a quick look, and everything looks dry from above. I thought you were talking about the PCV banjo that I keep hearing about on the later models. I don't have a banjo connection, mine is a early 98 (07-97 build), distributor ignition, no VVT. I may have to pull it out, I wonder if there is a way to seal the connection? Its a plastic tube hose clamped to the turbo, which wont seal the best.

Oil Leak from Turbo Inlet

I am having a decent amount of oil leaking out of my turbo inlet connection, the one where it goes to the air filter. I have not noticed any oil consumption. in 4000KM, I have not noticed any drop in oil level, but I did do an oil change 2000KM ago. I am sure its coming from the PCV system, I replac...

HI, just registered here. I bought a 98 V70 GLT AWD back in mid July, fixed a bunch of oil leaks, and did a bunch of maintenance to it.
