Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Did the PCV upgrade and it helped with the pressure. I used ZionXlX's internal spring idea, but incorporated a EMT sweep for the 90* 3ft of the oil resistant 5/8" hose ( from a heavy equipment parts store ) 4ft of the same in 1/4" A relatively light compression spring 1/2" EMT sweep $ 20 and change....

In Sveedys' case Silver Snoozer would be more appropriate. Not to the level of sleeper.

Re: Coolant flush

I don't know about running the engine without coolant, but I used an air compressor to blow out quite a bit more coolant than drained out naturally. Just held the blow gun and sealed with my hand on the reservoir tank.

Re: Should I bother

I tried the hose from the dipstick with an old style pcv valve in the end. Could not believe the amount of oil that ended up under the car and the on the garage floor. So yes I'm doing the pcv upgrade tomorrow/ Monday. The car is in as close to pristine condition as any I've ever seen. Rust free AZ ...

so dry readings are 100-110-150x3?
That's about right. 1 and 2 are low. That's why I was going the head gasket route, thinking maybe a leak between them. But with the wet test raising the psi 30lbs I figure I've got bigger issues.

Re: Should I bother

Gauge is generic no name. I checked the o-ring and oiled it a little before test. Pressure builds fast in the first 2 or 3 cranks, then doesn't do much of anything for the remaining 5.

Thanks for all the input - I at least feel that I can wait a bit on rebuilding. For now.....

Re: Should I bother

I did test all cylinders before I realized that I should have wot when doing the test. Having wot increased the numbers a bit.
# 1 was the lowest, then # 2 ( apx 10lbs better ) and the rest the same at apx 150.

I'll check maker of gauge. I should be so lucky...

Re: Should I bother

Yep. From what I've read it is. And I figure it's why I have too much crankcase pressure. So I'm hoping that if I can reduce the pressure I can then wait a bit before rebuilding the engine. It has 130k miles so I'd like to get a few more out of it.
