Found this table frame in someone’s garbage pile. I am no woodworker but I could see the quality in joint work , fussy legs and the fact that a rectangle frame was so rigid and heavy meant some artisan had built this

I stored plastic bins on top of it for 3/4 years. I almost threw it out during the big move. Instead, I took it to a local guy whose dad invented the polio vaccine and found a nice piece of cherry to finish it off.

Nice find ! That close to the dump, and now it will go on being useful and beautiful. And the frame looks to be made of mahogany.
History preserved. Got to love it !

We have a garage sale found coffee table that was painted white with 6 marble inserts. The paint was removed to reveal mahogany.

Tools to get if you don't have them:
Stiff hand brush (masonry brush) to wipe away the loose particles after about about hour of curing.
A grooving tool (maybe a 1/2 inch pipe) to scrap a bevel in the finished mortar after slight cure.
Stainless steel wire brush (carbon steel will cause rust) to clean brick face surface after several days cure. Vinegar can help clean the brick faces.

I would not do that. The dye will get everywhere you don't want. You'd have better luck cleaning and lightening the existing cement.
Maybe try a little muriatic acid on some inconspicuous place.
