Re: Belt fail timing jump

I have found nothing positive about aftermarket parts..and wow holy crap..even a limited to rings and bearings overhaul is going to be way expensive..really blows something unassociated can be so costly..if it was not such a nice car I am not sure I would put another dime in it..still kinda chapped ...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

Alright well we have an update..got the engine pulled and I was right..it did not bend a single valve..it bent EVERY valve..wow. It shows no damage to the pistons..and zero ridge at the top of the stroke..I am sorely tempted to just do the head..but..there would still be question marks so..I will ge...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

There is no more valuable resource than the interweb and forums..no matter what you have..if it is mass produced..somebody somewhere has had the same issue. I was looking at the other cover..and it appears that..really all I would have to do is bore a hole through where the other sensor goes and I c...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

Wow..I guess I am pretty lucky..I have to assume if it was going to fail it would have.. 10,000 miles should have been plenty for calling it successful? I had heard that about outboard motor block halves could not be swapped but successfully did one of those as well.

Re: Belt fail timing jump

I will get some pics of them both..the only difference between the two was the cam sensor hole..went right together and no leaks. My daughter is coming over to help so it should go much faster..this will be our third pull...or drop I suppose.

Re: Belt fail timing jump

What would I need to look for?..I actually swapped those some 10,000 miles ago as the 240 engine was a 38 and the V50 a 39 so it had the dual cam sensors..I have noticed no issues..but do not really know what I am looking for. Everything seems ok with the cover head and camshafts..when I pulled the ...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

Alright got the belt on and ran compression..good news is..well there is no good news other than it speeds up the rebuild..the original engine has no bent valves BUT..ran with a blown head gasket for a long time and damaged the head..it can be southern engineered..but I am not interested in half ste...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

Alright so I got the aligning tool set to make sure this was set perfect..(not sure how one would do it accurately otherwise) so since I needed to pull the little sensors off the end of the cams and could not get to one with the impact I went ahead and pulled the camshaft cover off to inspect the ca...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

When I bought this thing the previous owner told me it was a 2005..I thought that to be true till I got the title which said 2006..SO..the car itself is a 2006..but the engine is from a 2005 S40..only thing from the 2006 engine is the cam cover as the 2006 had cam sensors on both cams..the S40 did n...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

I went ahead and pulled the cam cover off to inspect the cams since I was this far into it..since I have another pair figured I would make sure I had the best of the four in there..I did. Also pushed compressed air into the cylinders listening for air escaping though a valve not seated properly...se...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

I tried the electric impact..which seems to have a good bit more torque than the pneumatic version..did not touch it..tried a dewalt battery powered version that is supposed to have 1200 lbs of reverse torque also..no luck. It did seem to be much tighter than the 132 ft lbs it is supposed to be set ...

Re: Belt fail timing jump

Thanks for the heads up on the tool RHP..fashioned me one and got the dang thing off finally..prolly took a bit over an hour to build it so I saved some money! Re: Belt fail timing jump

I have actually had another thought..I am going to install a new timing belt and then run compression..see if in fact there are bent valves..if so then I will put the other head on which suffered no damage.

Belt fail timing jump

I had it towed home and checked the battery all connections..charged it f...

Re: V50 S40 engine swap

I assumed since the V50 engine had the dual cam sensors all I had to do is swap that hub over to the other camshaft and valve cover of course. So the only difference in the two are emissions equipment..which should not be an issue. I had the engine back in the car before I noticed the differences in...

Re: V50 S40 engine swap

The cams looked...

V50 S40 engine swap- TCM not checked

I am swapping the engine 2.4 and tranny from a 2005 S 40 to a 2005 V50..and have found a few differences. First was the cam position sensor..the S 40 engine lacked the rear sensor..the alternator is different and there is a sensor on the radiator of the V50 where the S 40 did not..( I had swapped th...
