I'm hoping the flywheel was the source of the bad sound.
Any other maintenance that we should do while the pan is of ?

You are right, its just that the engine has brand new oil in it that I don't want to waste

If we remove the pan and don*t see any signs of overheat or play in the rod bearings then there is no point in takin them apart ?

So with both stethoscope and just the ears the sound is coming from the right side of the engine ( the gearbox side)

Sorry for unclear description, but in short removing the serpentine belt does not make a difference.
Now I'm hoping for something else with an easy fix. Will update soon with info regarding VVT and waterpump
