Re: E-brake doesn't work...
I just replaced mine following Ozark Lee's superb writeup. The job went just as described by Ozark, including that part where I stretched the lower spring in with a screwdriver to just barely hook it then had tap it in with a hammer. The problem with mine was that one of those metal retainer clips o...

Search under my member name, TAFinley. I have submitted many posts on this topic. From what you've said so far, I would try directly wiring the solenoid to a 12V source and seeing if the overdrive actually engages. Don't pay any attention to the overdrive light; drive the car to verify that it goes ...

Water in oil from cold running '97 850 T-5
I'd like to share a recent experience I had with my '97 850 T-5. I'm just adding this to the collective share of knowledge in the hope that it might help someone. Early this Spring, I noticed that the temperature gauge on the car was not rising more than a few millimeters above the lower red line. B...

Deposits, mostly from crankcase ventilation, will build up around the throttle plate. Eventually, these deposits can become thick enough to negatively impact engine performance. As Jot points out, the dealer will clean both the thottle plate and your wallet. Expect to pay about $70 for this service ...

John: Here are three things you can do: 1. Remove the OD relay and connect a jumper between the two pins that supply power to the OD solenoid so that the OD solenoid has constant power; ie, OD always on. This will work if the problem is the OD relay. 2. Run a wire from the battery to the OD solenoid...

Park the car on a level surface. Grab the tire along a line passing through the diameter and parallel to the ground and try to wiggle the tire back and forth. Put some good strength into this or else it won't work; you can't hurt the car. If there's a noticable wiggle, the steering rod (aka, tie rod...

John: I have submitted several posts related to the overdrive problem. This is common to the 240 and 740 series from the early 80's to the 90's. Search on my author name TAFinley and you'll see the posts. Basically, there are three things that can fail: Overdrive relay, overdrive solenoid, and the w...

I have a 240 with the same type of calipers. Here's what I do: Rotate the old brake pad 90 degrees and reinsert it. Using a small pry bar (you want a farly large surface area) as a lever between the rotor and the old brake pad, push the pistons back in. Because the brake pad is flat, you don't have ...
