I think you are correct, Not sure how much more money I want to spend on this car though. I'll maybe try some de-oxit and see what that does.
Thanks

Instrument panel light weirdness 92 740
My 92 740 wagon is developing increased weirdness as to the idiot lights across the bottom of the instrument cluster i.e. Sometimes in key on (but not running) no lights are on at all, other times they light up, other times they light up only as I am cranking the engine. Oil pressure light comes on ...

Re: Intermittent Charging 92 volvo 740
Wow that is a very interesting. Hopefully the bulb is super reliable. The only lights on the dash cluster which light anymore are the seat belt reminder light, the service light, which goes out after 30 seconds and the high beams indicator. Wonder if some big connector has fallen off the back?

Re: Intermittent Charging 92 volvo 740
Well, I'm back up and running---after a fashion. Ran a wire from the alternator through the firewall. Easy to do as there is a unused rubber bung just below where the main wiring loom runs in. A quick poke with a 1/8 drill and we are through. Up and across and into the fuse block on fuse 14 (radio) ...

Re: Intermittent Charging 92 volvo 740
OK , so to answer my own post, indeed its seems like no voltage is getting down the skinny wire to the alternator.I piggybacked a wire onto that terminal and touching it to the + terminal gets me charging again. So back to my last quesion, does anyone off hand know the current path from the battery ...

Intermittent Charging 92 volvo 740
Hello all, I am having some very weird electrical issues with my 740. Sometimes It starts and drives fine. Other times it starts but it is obvious that the (brand new) alternator is not charging. Dim lights, slow blower fan /wiper. and a sub 12 volt reading out of the cigarette lighter. Usually flic...

Re: No brake lights volvo 740/fuse/bulb/switch alltest good
Well, I pulled the relay panel, removed the bulb sensor, sprayed the contacts, reinstalled , NO JOY! Jobber parts man quotes 160 dollars for the bulb sensor relay!!!!. Would maybe go for it if I knew for certain that was the fix. BTW, 12V at one of the two connectors. SO-------Tap a switched hot off...

No brake lights volvo 740/fuse/bulb/switch alltest good
92 volvo 740 wagon, 4 cyl auto regina. Brake lights stopped working a while ago. Checked the fuse #4 --good. Shift interlock works. I replaced the brake light switch even though I think it was fine. Took the bulbs out and tested, they all work. The haynes manual shows no relays, but Judging by the t...

Still fuel system issues with 1992 wagon 740
Canadian market 1992 470 wagon with the Regina system. Problem one. If left for less than around 6 hours its starts first time. If left overnight. It takes several attempts to start. Turns over fine but does not fire. Usually after about for cranks it starts to sputter and after a couple of those it...

Troubleshooting 740 Regina Fuel system( was do I have a MAF
Well after a lot of poking around I've come to the conclusion I do not have a MAF sensor but instead a MAP sensor located near the brake booster, connected by a light brown vac hose. Hard Starting (sometimes) non existent acceleration below 2500 RPM (Sometimes) Seems to vary every time I star the ca...
