Re: driver door won't open
In answer to the last two posts, the problem seemed to be a plastic part within the latch mechnism that moved/broke/got angry and quit working, who knows. By the time they got through destroying the mechnism any hope of a detailed explanation was lost. The mechanic said in earlier versions it was ea...

Re: update on driver door won't open 99v70
Well I worked on this thing for hours and finally gave up. I took it to a reputable Volvo specialist who was equally stumped. He ended up literally sawing the latch mechanism apart to get the door open. Said they had never seen a situation like this before. I have no words of wisdom for anyone, just...

Re: 99 V70 door still won't open
Thanks folks. With all the feeling around inside the door I agree that there doesn't seem to be anything that the Slim Jim tool could pull on. Bit it is worth a try with a good lock smith. It is beginning to sound like a trip to the dealer may be the only way to find what's possible.

Re: 740 turbo kicks back at starting
Thanks Bill, the last time my mechanic checked there were no fault codes and the last time I checked the timing was steady at 12 BTDC. When one mechanic listened he said it sounded almost like there was pressure built up in a cylinder. How something like that would happen is beyond me. I am kind of ...

740 turbo kicks back at starting
My 1990 740 turbo wagon with greater than 250,000 miles (an estimate as the odometer doesn't work when it's cold) kicks back at starting, especially when hot. It is hard to describe but sometimes when starting it feels like someone grabs a hold of the engine and it abruptly stops turning, then proce...

99 V70 door still won't open
Despite some help from other members I still can't open the driver door on my 99 V70. Apparently the latch mechanism changed in 99 and earlier posts about rods falling out don't seem to help here as the rods seem to be enclosed in case. The problem is, I can't even remove that locking mechanism with...

Re: driver door won't open
SnookWhaler, the door panel is off--quite a trick in itself with the door stuck shut--I wish there was a plastic panel to take off. There isn't, nothing but sharp edges of the inner door skin with the working parts tucked up behind it. It's like doing arthroscopic surgery in there. What I am able to...

Re: driver door won't open
Thanks SnookWhaler. I have the front door panel off. On the 99 V70 front doors it is quite difficult to see or reach anything behind the metal inner door panel. All of the parts are behind it. But I will look for a misplaced rod and grommet. The locks work by the way. The only picture I have been ab...

driver door won't open
I have a 99 V70. The driver door won't open from inside or out. The outer handle doesn't come all the way out and the inner handle has no effect, although the cable is working. Recently the key would not unlock the door so I repaired that; the rod from the key to the lock had come away. But the door...
