I will start taking the head off the volvo tomorrow, and I will post back to let you guys know what the result is and follow up on the thread. I think I am just going to get the head rebuilt anyway, instead of just doing the damaged valves(if this is the problem). I am going to give clearwater a try...

The haynes # for the book is 3573.

I would recommend the euro haynes manual at least, if you don't have anything. You will probably have to get it off ebay. Others might have better suggestions. Thanks

Would it be worth it just to put a reman or new head on, or a used engine in, instead of fool with the valve? If so, does anyone know of any good places to look for used engines or reman heads? Thanks for the replies.

It is driven 5 days a week on 50 mile trips each day at about 78 to 83 mph. So, it gets revved. Also, I always use 93 octane. Yes, the car burns a little oil. It lightly smokes a bit when it is first started. Thanks for the help.
