Re: 98 V70 T5 Major Oil Leak
Well, about a year later and I finally got to working on this rig. Pulled the motor/trans, and sure enough the rear main seal was pushed out to where it was not touching the block anymore. Not sure why though. The PCV was somewhat carboned, but not enough to plug it up front what i could tell. No si...

Re: 98 V70 T5 Major Oil Leak
I'm guessing the pcv system is marginal. It certainly hasn't been done since I've had it. I see much evidence of crankcase overpressure however, and I doubt that would cause a major seal blow out like this. I'd expect more gradual leakage from all the seals and dipstick tube. That's on my to do list...

Re: 98 V70 T5 Major Oil Leak
Well, bad news.... looks like it's the rear main. Tried proping the throttle open for about 3k rpm and looked under there and I can see oil getting flung off the ring gear and pouring out. Given how quick it showed up I'm guessing the spring on the seal broke - only thing I can think of that would c...

Re: 98 V70 T5 Major Oil Leak
Interesting. Never seen a seal "blow out" like this - what I've seen is a progressive leak unless there's something else causing problems, or immediately after replacing a seal. Would certainly be nice if that's all it is, though the back of the head looked dry when I checked it. Didn't ta...

98 V70 T5 Major Oil Leak
Looking for thoughts/experience on a major oil leak on my car. She's a 98 V70 T5, ~260k miles. Had her ~6 years, had ~195k when I got her. No major engine work that I know of in it's life and certainly since I've had her. Had a blown trans when I got it, which was replaced with a good used unit. I r...

Re: San Diego Area Volvo Junkyard & Machine Shopa
Andrew, Thanks. I'll check them out. I've also bought a number of parts from you guys, so thanks for all the help. I'm sure I'll be getting more in the future. I agree with searching google, but google doesn't tell you much about reputation, prices, customer service, etc. I'd rather support someone ...

San Diego Area Volvo Junkyard & Machine Shopa
Does anyone know of a good Volvo specialist junkyard to go to in the San Diego or even socal area? I've dealt quiet a bit with Volvo Sabb Auto Dismantlers out of Rancho Cordova when i was living in the Sacramento area, but I'd like to find someone closer. Shipping an engine 500+ miles is rather diff...

Re: Defective Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt - Anyone Else Seen One?
Thanks.
Also, this was **not** a defective tensioner, but rather the bolt. I have heard of problem with the tensioneror idler bearings prematurely going bad, but this is something different.

Defective Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt - Anyone Else Seen One?
I had an 04 S60 come into my shop a couple days ago complaining that the motor suddenly stopped while driving. Turns out that the timing belt tensioner bolt had failed, causing the belt to go slack, which then led to the classic piston / valve interaction. What caused it all seems to be a defective ...

Re: Hydrogen Generators on Volvos
I shouldn't do this, but it's way too temping.... must stir the pot. Can anyone explain to me how adding a tiny amount of hydrogen is going to make sure a huge difference? Let explain why it makes no sense to me.... let's say your volvo (with a 2.5L engine) is cruising at 2000 rpm going down ...
