I did install a non-OE voltage regulator but that seemed to emit a burning smell when I started and ran the car for a few minutes.
So, I took out that regulator and installed a used Bosch regulator that still had a decent amount of brush life. No more burning smell. But ...

After changing out the battery and making sure all the points were lined up (crankshaft mark and camshaft sprocket marks), I started the car!!! And it stayed running! Can you believe that?

Bracket holding the serpentine belt tensioner and bolt holes to power steering pump, has a pulley on the bottom of it. I think the bottom bolt hole might be for a bolt to the alternator. Is the pulley on this bracket removeable? Then, if it is, what is the pulley called or have a part number?
