Re: My "newsed" 88 240 GL
start with replacing any worn or cracked vacuum lines. heck if you're handy get em all. that will almost always correct an erratic idle or dying problem. i also did cap, rotor, wires and plugs on mine...easy and cheap stuff. sunroof i dunno, my 1990 240dl's was electric. obviously there is a series ...

Re: downshift transmission clunk!!
fluid swap and reflash seemed to fix the problem. thanks all for the input and advice. since the fluid was way dirtier than i thought, i'm guessing that the clutch was not able to grab properly and that caused the shudder under load. it now grabs smoothly. i bought the fluid for my car from volvo an...

Re: downshift transmission clunk!!
yeah, i was hesitant buying this car because it was an automatic, my first. i'm told the stick version of this car is difficult to find because the nearest source was canada. i'm hoping these simple fixes will help..but i fear the worst. and to make things worse, my friends keep telling me i should'...

Re: downshift transmission clunk!!
he's one of the highest recommended independent volvo specialist in the area so the trans reflash shouldn't be a problem. as for the flush i raised the same question about dislodging gunk and he said his machine doesn't force oil through like some. it merely ''replaces'' the oil cooler in the flow s...

downshift transmission clunk!!
when ascending a grade in my v70 xc my car will clunk when it downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear. the car seems to upshift smoothly in every gear otherwise and is almost unnoticable in the flats(when overtaking and it downshifts from 4th to 3rd). this seems like more than a software issue which was the...

Re: in-dash computer reads "disc"
i searched the forums. MIJ suggested to someone else that it may be a bad ignition tumbler. funny thing is, when i start my car it can take a couple of seconds of cranking before it fires. the engine will turn over but not start during this time. i was told that this could be the ring around the swi...

in-dash computer reads "disc"
my trip/mpg/temp computer located in my instrument panel occasionally reads disc and the blocks that indicate which mode it is in all light up, then it will return to reading the selected mode. it seams to happen most when i am in instant mpg mode...this happens every couple of minutes or so. does a...

Re: S70 T5 2000 5-speed - Towing/Launching/Retreiving Sailboats
your five speed should tow more than an auto because a) the unit itself is lighter therefore increasing power to weight ratio (as well as decreasing MOI within the unit) b) it should be internally stronger than an automatic equivalent. the possible downsides could be a drivers inability to effective...

Re: 2000 XC70 -- mechanical tensioner
thanks MIJ. i checked for residue and signs of leakage around the water pump...none to be found. however what is the maint. interval on that anyway? i've heard 180k, which in my case is almost 80k away.
