Re: tires - for mud season

I got some used Michelin snow tires 225/60/16 for my 850. OD is same as std but 1.5" wider and rub at extreme turning but these tires are awesome. No balancing needed (just only a 1/2 oz or less so you really don't need to balance them which is typical for Michelin. They are very smooth, good grip i...

Re: Transmission and sensor issues finally solved without paying big money!

I'm wondering about flushing the trans. I'm buying an XC70 2008 with about 100k miles and noticed the trans had recently had a flush by a muffler shop. The selling dealer (not volvo) had it done. So I'm wondering if it had a shift problem or if this is common. I'm buying it remotely but will have Vo...

I'm in a similar boat with a burnt valve on a '97 GLT. It uses about 1qt/1k miles and did smoke a bit on start up- bad valve seals. I think the rings are probably about shot but could the valve seals be causing the high oil consumption? The car is a bit rough- dented hood, door, driver seat worn. Ha...

The rack was just rebuilt and I put it in- the inner joints were good. The outer ends were very stiff. I should add that I put an in-line filter in the return line. Plastic did not work for me so I ended up using wire (bare, solid). Found just the right gage and just worked it around the 3 guide pins after prying open a gap. Just snake it around and then twist the two ends to keep it in place. No problems after a year. Can always add thicker wire when needed.

Re: FINALLY, a Vacuum Hose Diagram Topic is solved

I had found a parts book picture showing it in more detail on another forum. Here is the link.

Good luck.

Re: Supplemental PCV system?

My 97T smokes too but doesn't seem to build up pressure. I get the condensation on the dipstick. When under load, you can put your finger over the dipstick tube hole and stop the smoke and there seems to be very little force behind it, which tells me it is getting sucked into the engine. I also trie...

Re: Trouble shooting high NO emission - 96 855 NA

Generally NOx goes up as timing is advanced. Maybe regular gas would cause it to retard the timing and reduce NOx. Do you ever get any pinging? If so maybe the knock sensor is bad or something, causing too advanced timing. Don't know for sure about Volvos. And could your timing be off if your cam wa...

My steering wheel wobble problem has been solved with new tires on front. One had a bubble. Now smooth as silk with Michelin MXVs.

Re: Duplicate key for a Volvo S80

I have an 850 and the key has a flat edge in the middle of the keyed edges on both sides of it and Walmart said they can't do those. Is the S80 key a conventional key?

Actually my tires are 15", not 16. Misread the tire. No wonder they were hard to find.

Re: 850 1993 check engine light out, can not smog

I bought a used 97 850 out of Chicago from some young guys that get them from dealer auctions. The speedo gear was not working and I changed that, but noticed 3 bulbs were pulled including the check engine light. Gone. They just turn and come out of the circuit board. There were a couple unused blan...

Re: Words of Advice

One thing I tried was use some compressed air to see if it was plugged up totally. I get a little smoke out the dipstick. As long as the engine is not running, the seal should take the compressed air (it did). Lip seals go bad when they have pressure AND rotation. I know because of experience with d...

Re: warped hub? unbalanced half shaft?

I think I found my problem- a bubble on the RF tire. Tread has separated. It's on inboard part of tire, and when that part hits the ground it is causing a torque to be applied because that part has more traction momentarily. Went to buy a new tire, 195-60 16. Not easy to find either. Couldn't find o...

Re: warped hub? unbalanced half shaft?

97 850 wagon 150k? miles I have a wobble in the steering wheel up to about 40 and it goes away. It also goes away on a snow covered street, even when only one wheel is on a slippery surface. And once backing up and turning there was a strong pull in the steering wheel. So it seems like it is a CV jo...

Re: Heat Shield Recall Expired, now Extended Until 2009/12/31

My Volvo dealer said there was no expiration.

I had looked up my VIN in the Ford site and it said I needed this, but the Volvo dealer said it was done already but there was no expiration.

Just curious what IS the correct idle speed for 97 850 T? Mine idles at 1000 which seems a bit fast.

Re: Front Strut Replacement & Alignment Issue

I've gotten to the point that I just do the toe in myself using a couple methods. They always seem to toe it in too much otherwise, and there is a slight drag and tire wear. So I either just to it out a but, maybe 1/4 turn and see how it feels. Or better yet I do what I saw a shop do years ago. They...

Re: FINALLY, a Vacuum Hose Diagram Topic is solved

Found a better picture elsewhere and mine is way off as suspected. But I still don't know what goes on the hard 1/8 tube that starts near the TCV but lower, and is rigid mounted, and goes across and down the back of the engine lower somewhere out of view. Maybe to the transmission? If so what should...

Re: FINALLY, a Vacuum Hose Diagram Topic is solved

Hello - thanks for the diagram. I'm new here. Great forum. I have a new 97 850 turbo wagon, and am having some problems with overboost and cutting out. I can't figure out where the red line that comes out of the TCV should go. Currently it's tee'd into a line that hooks onto the beginning of the air...
