Radiator Fan inoperative for A/C 2008 XC70

Engine fan is not running when A/C is on. It does come on and off for coolant. So A/C gets too hot and doesn't cool.

Any idea where the relay would be to activate? Is it temp controlled or on all the time when A/C on? Is there a fuse for it?

Thanks

Bob

Re: 2009 XC70 Engine Woe... fix or replace?

Why did prior owner change head gasket? Probably same issue. Did oil sample say anything about coolant in oil? Or fuel in oil? With all the things wrong, I wouldn't even drive it. probably needs head pulled again and new gasket, maybe it is warped or cracked. Possibly got overheated. Maybe there is ...

Re: 2008 XC70 3.2L - Persistent Air-conditioning Problem

Did you find the problem??
On mine, the cooling fan does not come on when a/c is on. It does come on when coolant temp increases as it should. Apparently the relay or sensor for the a/c is broken. Any idea were these would be located?

Re: 2008 XC70 Air-conditioning compressor noise

I've been having the same noise, as described above like low oil in power steering. It starts a little while after the a/c is on. I turn off a/c and it instantly goes away, so it's not the belt or idler or clutch. It's definitely a pump sound. The a/c comp is brand new and the noise is still there ...

Re: tires - for mud season

I got some used Michelin snow tires 225/60/16 for my 850. OD is same as std but 1.5" wider and rub at extreme turning but these tires are awesome. No balancing needed (just only a 1/2 oz or less so you really don't need to balance them which is typical for Michelin. They are very smooth, good grip ...

Re: Transmission and sensor issues finally solved without paying big money!

I'm wondering about flushing the trans. I'm buying an XC70 2008 with about 100k miles and noticed the trans had recently had a flush by a muffler shop. The selling dealer (not volvo) had it done. So I'm wondering if it had a shift problem or if this is common. I'm buying it remotely but will have ...

How did the debris get in there? Should be caught by the cabin filter.

Re: New Tie Rod ends too tight?

The one near the wheel is stiff. The inner ones were fine when I installed the rack. The outers were new and very stiff and still are. No roughness, just very tight.

Re: 850 head, valve damage; get used engine or rebuild

I'm in a similar boat with a burnt valve on a '97 GLT. It uses about 1qt/1k miles and did smoke a bit on start up- bad valve seals. I think the rings are probably about shot but could the valve seals be causing the high oil consumption?

The car is a bit rough- dented hood, door, driver seat worn ...

Re: New Tie Rod ends too tight?

The rack was just rebuilt and I put it in- the inner joints were good. The outer ends were very stiff.
I should add that I put an in-line filter in the return line. I'm starting to wonder if that got plugged causing a rack leak, which appears to be leaking out of the pinion shaft cover at the ...
