Our 1986 240 will go to overdrive only when it is cool. Late afternoon, even late morning, and it stays in 3rd gear. I think my solenoid is fine. It started happening after a run up a hill on a hot day.. Could it be the internal workings of the tranny? (280000 + now)

thought I had this fixed-

The small bump rattle is back- I thought it was due to the non-OEM bolt I put in the control arm rear mount to replace the stripped one- but after pulling the right bolt from the local pick n pull and installing it , the noise still occurs. I don't get the clunk anymore ...

This happened again two days ago. The car rested and then no more groaning from the steering pump.

also- What's with the no response to my requests? Shall I go elsewhere?

I have had two instances where on hot days I turn into a parking lot and I can hear the groaning of something in the engine compartment while the steering wheel gets very hard to turn. When I come back out to the car, it acts as if nothing was ever wrong!

I need to know if it is my steering ...

Breakthrough weekend for this problem. I ordered the new bushings for the rear control arm joints. Turns out I did not need them though I used my vice to push the left one out.


As I was removing the rear control arm mounting cowling, I noticed that the top bolt was not coming out, just spinning ...

I fixed it- The bulb was fine, though not on- so I disconnected and reinserted the connector to the rear left light panel and now the left turn blinker works great!

I also found out that my right rear brake light was burnt out- so my bulb out signal really was right. I did not catch it because ...

My left turn signal now goes blinky-blinky really fast and the right signal is perfectly signalling. I changed both the relay and the turn signal accuator yesterday and the problem remains. What am I missing? Is the lamp burnout indicator relay messed up? The light stays on all the time.

Here is what I did: I have done the digger bar under the wheels and trying to move them at 10 and 3 for play. Nothing.. so, I removed the left strut and checked ball joints, strut bearing for play. I found no play and I put it all back together. I was not able ...
