If it only happens during idling, I'd also check the PVC valve, I have this problem with my VW Jetta.

It might be the fuel pump thats not operating properly.
I used to have problems starting the car, as the sometimes the start motor would crank but the engine won't fire. This was solved by replacing the ignition switch.

Once you get the 2 screws holding the MAF to the filter housing out, loose the clamp on the other side. Now the MAF should turn loosely but won't come out easily. Take a flat screwdriver and pry it out from the plastic hose. I think there is a small tab on the hose that will help you getting a grip....

I use 93 octane, though I did go once on 89 and didn't notice a difference. The manual saids that min 95 oct (EU rating) which is more or less equivalent to 91 here in US. By the way, do use a fuel system cleaner from time to time.
