Check the tire wear, if the wheel alignment is off you will have terrible high speed wet traction...especially if it's raining hard enough to make big puddles on a highway.

Thinking about purchasing a 2017 XC60 T6

My wife totalled her XC90 T6 a couple of months ago and were looking at this 2017 XC60 T6 with 30k on the odometer. We like the newer XC90 but it's so much bigger than her XC90 was, so were considering the XC60 instead. She's been driving a BMW x3 and she really misses her Volvo, so she wants to tra...

Re: 2004 XC70 AWD not working

The AOC AWD system is not active without engine running. The hydraulic pump is not turned on until the engine running data bit is broadcast on network. If you do the same things with eng running and you do not have considerable effort to turn the wheel then there is a problem. The AOC will have a l...

Check your EGR system, if your EGR system is really bad it's full of resin/carbon that will expand during extreme weather conditions. This could possibly block passage ways and it's rare but I've seen a no start condition in extreme cold weather because of this issue. I actually heated up the area w...

Interesting. Is the wire correctly attached to the strut plastic (or metal) bracket? Speaking of these sensors, careful not to pull on the wire (even just slightly) when removing a sensor or working on the suspension, always pry out the sensor with a flat screwdriver from underneath. Yes the wire g...

Good find. How bad does it smell in the car? Generally on Volvos of this era the fuel pump is the culprit. The plastic on top gets brittle and starts to crack with age and time. It would make sense the sending unit side would do the same thing. Some people fix the problem by "pooling" a thin layer ...

My wife's 2004 XC70 just had a split rubber coolant hose on the PCV Crankcase ventilation/coolant pipe(30731068). The rubber portion of this setup was replaceable, so I replaced just the rubber hose. Just curious how many miles in your 2004 XC70 when the "rubber portion" of PN 30731068 split? Also,...

I have an '04 XC70 and '04 XC90, from my recollection I would say yes they look identical. Sounds like a great swap for better stability around corners and on /off ramps. I'd like to hear how the rear sway bar from a V70R works out after you swap it in.

Tow truck broke out front strut spring, WTF!!

Our 2004 XC70 busted the coolant rubber hose on the crankcase ventilation coolant pipe. Since I didn't want to change it on spot I had it towed home. Tow driver had to place on flatbed pulling rear of car up first and he used straps because the eyehooks wouldn't catch threading in back location. We ...

Re: 2004 XC70 PCV coolant pipe

I think the reason is the PCV piping is plastic and eventually gets brittle and fails from hot oil exposure. I barely torqued mine and I felt the plastic shatter inside the insulation. If it is intact, though, I agree its a $200 part you don't need. I probably would have splurged for this crankcase...

You can re-use the metal cover gaskets. I would work on it by blowing with compressed air and then clean with throttle/brake cleaner then blow it dry. Use the epoxy and see how it goes. Sounds like just the cost of the epoxy to me! With the fuel pump there is another connector out of picture which ...

You have to look at the compressor pulley , the part that ouches the serpentine belt always turns, the outside face turns when the clutch is pulled in, and stops when the clutch is out If you lose cold air and the outer face is still, it’s probably a clutch gap problem The clutch disengages when it...

Issue in my opinion is as stated on the clutch gap. That was exactly what my car was doing last year. I would rather dump the S60 & get the 2000 V70XC, much easier to work on and parts are cheaper. The motor is solid on these cars and so is the 4 speed transmission as long as it's serviced properly. The AWD can always be converted back to FWD, ultimately that's really what the chassis is (FWD). But...

Re: Would you buy this 2000 V70-XC?

Shiloh - I thought the P80 P2 chassis break was clean at MY 2001? Am I wrong? Thats hasn't ever happened today In 2000 the P2 body was badged V70XC but still had the 2.4l turbo, 5 A/T and Haldex generation 1 ADD system. 2003 got the 2.5l turbo motor and gen Haldex AWD system. 2000 was a split year,...

Re: Would you buy this 2000 V70-XC?

Before I mention the cons I will say that the P80 V70XC or V70XCSE is my favorite Volvo. That being said I'm on my 3rd one, 2 ,98' V70XC 's and 1 00' V70XCSE that died by deer crash. My other '98 died by hydro locking motor, coolant level sensor failure hence no warning of water leak while driving l...

Re: Let's see your Volvo (The Photo Thread)

Two weeks ago a CL ad popped up on my search for a low mileage, unmolested, always garaged, very clean 850 base with auto trans. not too far from me. I was intrigued and went to take a look at it. Too my surprise it was a one owner, very well cared for car with the timing belt done just last spring...

Welcome back to MVS and stay healthy. I love the new XC90, it's gorgeous and Volvo really stepped there game up a few notches with the XC90's new platform. Actually all of there new vehicles are top notch, quite an impressive line-UP. I see you owned a 1996 Volvo 850GLT at one point. We owned a 1996...

Re: 850 T-5R and R Nivomats

I got the Sachs regular shocks for my V70XC, just need to get the right springs to match up. My Nivomats are ok for now but I'm going to swap when they eventually fail.

500 and they give you 100 back when they get your core back, make sure you save the return shipping label that comes in the box with the prop shaft. It provides free shipping when you return the core. I lost mine but they emailed me another one when I called. Solid company. $400.00 is worth saving ...

Re: 1998 V70XC Propeller Shaft Recommendations needed...

I’ve got about 6K on a Colarado Driveshaft prop shaft installed a couple months back with no issues. Like Lee said they were great to deal with, strongly recommend. It replaced a salvage yard shaft installed by the previous owner that only lasted about 20K. To be fair I had some tire pressure issue...

Hi all, Usually I'm always posting about my 850 as it's an older car and always has little issue I need the forum for. I think that is the beauty of MVS, once your older Volvo is out of warranty you literally can have any question answered within a few days on here. But that's not what I'm here to ...

If it's a money pit and not worth it then get rid of it. Every used car has it's issues but if you have to pay someone else to get your R back to stage 0 or back to like new shape it's going to cost big dollars.

Thanks guys for your responses thus far. I did come from them mentality that 170k miles was nothing for this model car. I do not have any car payments at present (my wife's car or this one). I do still like the car and have now dropped over $900 in the last month for upkeep. (New radiator and now t...

I finally gave up on trying to find the short for the A/C due to time constraints during the summer I work 7 days a week and I brought her to the closest Volvo dealer. I'm must say I'm quite disappointed after paying for a diagnostic fee. The tech there wanted to replace a brand new a/c compressor/a...

5 cyl's came back in 2015 with a 2.5T T5 higher pressure, 250 HP and a wonderful engine Short run until the V90s came out. Personally I would not buy a 3.2 6 until at least the 2011s when they were seriously revamped for more power and much better lower end driving. 2008 2010 I would not buhy, the ...

Re: Should i trade in the P2 XC70 for P3 XC70?

The 2.5L was phased out for the P3 series. My indie Volvo mechanic says that they are as robust as any P2 and with a better engine that is chain driven. They are a very good looking package with some detail improvements and floating centre console. The AWD system is also a next generation setup. TY...
