I've had the brake booster sensor cause erratic shifting and hard down shifting...I mean slamming down. I replaced the brake booster sensor after diagnosis and she shifted perfectly for years after.

Check the tire wear, if the wheel alignment is off you will have terrible high speed wet traction...especially if it's raining hard enough to make big puddles on a highway.

If I lived closer to you I'd come get that p80 and I have a 1998 rear propeller shaft from the 98 v70xc I had years ago. 1 of my coolant lines split open and i lost all of my coolant, the level sensor was sticking so I never got the warning light on the dash cluster. You really have to take off the tubing for the turbo system to inspect for leakage. You won't get any DTC's for leakage in one of those soft tubes. Check all of your vacuum lines for your EVAP system. Do you a scan tool for reading long term and short term fuel trims?

If you cannot spin the driveshaft by hand that is a good sign - it verifies your angle gear & collar sleeve should be in working order, but it has nothing to do with verifying the functional status of the AOC/Haldex/DEM pump. The AOC AWD system is not active without engine running. The hydraulic pump is not turned on until the engine running data bit is broadcast on network. If you do the same things with eng running and you do not have considerable effort to turn the wheel then there is a problem. The AOC will have a l...

Check your EGR system, if your EGR system is really bad it's full of resin/carbon that will expand during extreme weather conditions. This could possibly block passage ways and it's rare but I've seen a no start condition in extreme cold weather because of this issue. I actually heated up the area w...

Speaking of these sensors, careful not to pull on the wire (even just slightly) when removing a sensor or working on the suspension, always pry out the sensor with a flat screwdriver from underneath. Yes the wire g...

My ABS icon lit up other day and the Anti skid light flashes briefly like tires were spinning but they weren't. That sheds some light on matters. From the factory, I have never heard of either side leaking while the car is young. After years of use the plastic top will fail and leak. Good find. How bad does it smell in the car? Generally on Volvos of this era the fuel pump is the culprit. The plastic on top gets brittle and starts to crack with age and time. It would make sense the sending unit side would do the same thing. Some people fix the problem by "pooling" a thin layer ...

This is a good topic, I've been through this personally with our 2004 XC70 w/factory Xenon/Bi-xenon lighting. After hurricane Sandy the R/F Ballast module and the ignitor failed. So I had to repair the headlight because a new factory assembly was like $1100.00. We love the lighting but it's expensiv...

On a 2002 V70 X/C, 2.4L turbo, does the intake cam use a seal on the rear? I saw one on the rear of the exhaust cam, but not the intake. This is more for future people who may come across this conversation.. The problem with most 'heavy duty' springs, which are usually aftermarket, is that generally they're designed to facilitate a heavier cargo load. Which can be confused with the concept of longevity. They will make the car sit a ...

Strapping to the control arms is still no different than driving up a steep incline as far as the stresses on the spring are concerned. It's the same forces whether applied via a strap around the control arm or by engine power at the wheel. I've seen two coil springs break over the years on differe...

I don't quite understand how the lateral force presented to the coil spring by a tow truck would be different than the same stresses that you would see normally through stomping on the gas or braking hard. The tow truck grabs onto the wheel, not the spring. I'm thinking that would have broke soon w...

I was going to suggest checking the plumbing at the turbo flanges, over time the constant heat kills the plumbing where the tubes mate to the turbo flange and even though it make look fine you actually have to remove that air duct to see behind the clamps. But your MAF sensor sounds problematic.

I'm actually only replacing the rubber line, not even breaking the seal on the banjo bolt. Napa was actually able to find me the right hose with ...

2004 XC70 PCV coolant pipe
My wife's 2004 XC70 has had the slowest leak for a while and I never really located it. So a week ago it turned into a major leak and had to tow home since it wouldn't hold coolant long to get her home. Anyway after digging into drivers side of motor I finally found a hose attached to a hard line th...

Hi All, I own a 2007 XC-90 with a progressive electrical issue. Originally the front cigarette lighter, DVD player, and front passenger seat stopped working around the same time. Now the AC fan stops working (blowing) as well. I've checked all known fuses and seem to be in good order. The battery w...

Re: A/C cold for 10mins then goes warm.
You have to look at the compressor pulley , the part that ouches the serpentine belt always turns, the outside face turns when the clutch is pulled in, and stops when the clutch is out If you lose cold air and the outer face is still, it’s probably a clutch gap problem The clutch disengages when it...

Issue in my opinion is as stated on the clutch gap. That was exactly what my car was doing last year. When the outside temp was about high 20's C, it was ok, but as soon as it went over 30C it would run for a while then go warm. Switch it off and leave for a while and the it would do it all over ag...

Do you happen to know where the Evaporator temperature sensor is located on a 2004 XC70? When the sensor goes bad it usually gets the lines white-frozen in the engine bay but the air is still cold - it just makes the compressor run so much until the evaporator gets covered with ice. So when the iss...

If you're absolutely sure the refrigerant is fully charged then it kinda sounds like the evaporator is freezing up. Mine did that due to a faulty evap temp sensor. My 1998 V70XC has a bad hanger bearing(center support bearing) on the rear propellar shaft. The rubber has totally seperated from the center of the bearing and there's no slip yoke on the u joint. The springs are back ordered at the main dealer because the XC70 has a tendency to break them. I have read more than one owner who replaced one, then a second failed months later. And you may be unlucky and have it break on the road, quite unpleasant not to mention not safe. Do you have to absolute...

It looks like those trouble codes are largely related to the cam solenoid. Those solenoid usually crack when someone unplug them and then caused higher resistance causing melting of the plastic housing. I hope that's not the solenoid you already replaced.

Re: 1998 V70XC Propeller Shaft Recommendations needed...

It replaced a salvage yard shaft installed by the previous owner that only lasted about 20K. To be fair I had some tire pressure issue...

Thanks for your replies, I'm definitely keeping the AWD. Why buy an XC if your not going to have AWD.

I swapped the additional rack from my 2000 V70XCSE to my new 1998 V70XC.
My favorite color also, my third V70XC in Nautic Blue.

Re: My 2011 C30 Review
Hi all, Usually I'm always posting about my 850 as it's an older car and always has little issue I need the forum for. I think that is the beauty of MVS, once your older Volvo is out of warranty you literally can have any question answered within a few days on here. But that's not what I'm here to ...

Re: Why I hate my 2000 V70R!
If it's a money pit and not worth it then get rid of it. Every used car has it's issues but if you have to pay someone else to get your R back to stage 0 or back to like new shape it's going to cost big dollars.

Re: Keep it or junk it?
Thanks guys for your responses thus far. I did come from them mentality that 170k miles was nothing for this model car. I do not have any car payments at present (my wife's car or this one). I do still like the car and have now dropped over $900 in the last month for upkeep. (New radiator and now t...

Re: 1998 S70....Can't solve the error codes P0107 and P1308 prob
Got these Cels for a while now....Changed Barometric sensor, Acceleration sensor, High and low AC pressure sensors as they all share the same ground....Yet CEL is still there for P0107 and P1308.....I don't know where to go from there.....Can this be a ECU problem?....By simply swapping the ECU wit...
