Yes, there is a nipple on top of the fuel tank also... this may be the source of the 'leak/fuel smell'. Check it before you get stuck into the pump!
If fuel is leaking from the nipple, two choices, try and seal it or replace the tank.

If I'm right, I believe that all the functions that are on that stalk have failed, message centre, full beam etc. Pull the OBC fuse and turn the ignition to the second stage and then off again. Replace the fuse, you should be good to go. Effectively a hard reboot... somewhere along the line the car ...

I hear you... I know the trannies are one to watch. I had it flushed prior to purchase and I have a warranty. I paid less than $5k when I bought it with 70k on it and have a full Volvo history hence I know what's been done. If you're in the UK you should be able to find a good mechanic who will look...

Folks, New to the 'site, looks to have some great info'. I have a S80 T6, had all the usual probs... heater core, fuel pump, gas tank etc. Runs like a dream despite all this (reaching to touch wood!). 86k, most comfortable car ever! I have the nav' package and don't have the Texas DVD which I need, ...
