'86 740 GLE Wagon Camshaft Seal Replacement
I am getting ready to replace the front camshaft seal on my wagon, as my wife has been complaining that my car is incontinent. The Haynes manual seems to outline the procedure fairly well. Is there anything else I should consider doing while I am in there? Are there any tricks to this that they don'...

Heater Core
Thanks for the input. This is an aging car and I do not know what else may pop up as a problem. It is a daily driver. I went with the low price but new heater core from eeuroparts for $110. It sure was a long trail to get to the heater core. I expect it to go a little faster putting it back together...

Which heater core should I purchase
I am replacing the heater core in my 86 740 GLE. I have seen them listed from $110 to $270. Are the after market ones any good? Should I spend the extra for a genuine Volvo part? It is very time consuming to replace this part so I don't want to put in something cheap that will go bad prematurely. Th...

Blower Motor replacement
I have an '86 740 and the blower motor is notorious for taking on water, rusting and freezing up. I do not know if your 95 is situated the same way, but in my '86 is it not that hard to swap out. I would suggest that you purchase a Haynes or Chilton's Automotive Repair Manual and look at the procedu...

Rerouting the coolant back to the engine
I found that 1/2" copper pipe works nicely to reroute the coolant back to the engine while working on replacing the heater core from inside the cabin. I made a U shaped pipe that mimicks how the heater core pipes come through the firewall, but found that the hoses are flexible enough that I cou...

Heater core pipes
Thanks Bill. This makes sense, as the coolant will be hotter coming from the engine. I'll look a bit deeper and try to locate them. I was going to try to loop the the connection back while I work on getting to the heater core from inside the cabin.

Are these the heater core lines?
I am getting ready to replace the heater core in my '86 740 GLE Wagon. The Haynes manual refers to clamping off the lines to the heater core. But I see two metal lines going from the radiator to the firewall. How do you clamp off metal lines? They aren't transmission cooling lines are they? These ar...

Transmission slipping '86 740 GLE Wagon
My transmission has started to slip, that is, it does not seem to fully engage when I start out cold, but improves when I get going. I also descend a long hill from home and typically go down in 2nd gear. It has started to momentarily slip out of 2nd and into 3rd then back again. How bad are these s...

I do not see where you mentioned the year. I would do a quick search on EBay and see how the bids are on a similar model and year. Also do some research in Consumer Reports to see what kinds of problems to expect. I recently considered a '96 850 but saw three black marks against the car I was intere...
