After spending another few hours messing with it, I am convinced that something is broken off of the connector. Is there a way to compensate, or replace it? I'm guessing a JY.

BEJin FBK is correct, it is a tricky connector. Make sure that the connector is fully opened and then make sure that the ears on the connector catch the pins before you fold the connector down. I also recommend trying it yourself. I repaired mine last week with just a soldering iron and some small gauge solder. It's usually only one point that goes bad.
