1996 850 GLT
I was getting all signs of a bad ABS unit... intermittent ABS light and I could hear the ABS turning on and off randomly when driving. I finally got a failed odo and speedo, so I ordered a brand new ABS unit from FCP. I installed it, and still no speedo, odo, and I have an ABS light. I noticed when I plug the large cable into the unit, it feels like it doesn't snap in, more like it is just resting there. Could this be the source of my problems? I'm feeling defeated after messing with this for hours on end today. Any suggestions?

It was strange. I unclipped the cover and it just kind of pulled off without any effort. I tried putting a lot of pressure on it, but it doesn't want to seem to stay there.
I doubt that I have two bad ABS units, especially considering that one is new from FCPG.
I'm hoping someone had a similar situation so I don't have to get taken by a dealership.

BEJin FBK is correct, it is a tricky connector. Make sure that the connector is fully opened and then make sure that the ears on the connector catch the pins before you fold the connector down.
Done properly it should feel like a very solid connection.
Is it possible that the ears have broken off of your connector?

It is possible, though I know I didn't break anything off. Is there any way to compensate for that if it is broken off?Ozark Lee wrote:BEJin FBK is correct, it is a tricky connector. After spending another few hours messing with it, I am convinced that something is broken off of the connector. Is there a way to compensate, or replace it? I'm guessing a JY.

The connector latch must be fully opened when it is mated. At that point the ears on the "wire side" of the connector should grasp the pins on the module and draw the connector down into its locked position. If the ears miss it will be a bad connection and the module won't work properly.
