Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
Well, used some Seafoam which cleared the rest of the moisture out of the engine and drained the oil after it was run for a while. The I threw some of that "Engine Restore" in a can in with the new oil and ran some more. No dice really...still seems to have blow-by in excess and stalls at ...

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
I also started searching for piston ring sets tonight a bit while surfing the net...anyone have any good sites or place to go for this? Any reasonably priced? I'm on a pretty tight budget unfortunately right now...as I'm sure everyone is these days.

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
Seafoam is cheap and it has often worked with 1/3 of a can in the crankcase. Others have used --- I think it is called AutoRx --- but I have no experience with that product. I am no real fan of "miracle in a can" products but a few have surprised me and it is cheap to at least try. ...Lee...

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
Alright, I did some more testing and ran the car again today. First I did a leakdown and found that number 1 and 5 cylinder had something like 48% and 55% leakdown and the center 3 had over 65%...number 3 had like 88% leakdown. Anyway, I ran it again and am starting to really think that the milkines...

Re: Changed timing belt, now won't start
I am thinking that is what happened. I think the timing belt is off a few teeth. He said he turned the motor over by hand a few times before starting it, so unless he really jammed on past every hard spot, I don't think he bent the valves. And if the car ran before the timing belt, and the valves ar...

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
I believe that's where it does go. I would start with just a compression check for now, if you've got the tools for it. You should see 180-200 psi on a used 2.4 engine. Try it when cold, try it with some oil in each cylinder to rule out rings, and maybe try it again when warm to see if my theory st...

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
If it is that hose, it is responsible for pulling a vacuum for the PCV system, and may cause some smoke to be thrown up the tube. But, it should make NO difference in the idle or running, aside from throwing an O2 sensor code for unmetered air in the system. I would start with a compression test as...

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
The dipstick shouldn't spew ANYTHING unless the engine is warmed up first. That hose attaches to the left side of the intake manifold on my '98 behind the alternator. I do not know whether or not the '99 base model is different there as the XC's and R's are. It was warmed up after I did the head ga...

Re: Oops I did it again - and I need ideas.
Yea, I was just going to say, I have this same problem on my '99 S70. RR window goes down but not up. Replaced the switch on the RR door and still nothing. If I run power from a battery directly to the motor though in either direction, it goes up and down fine. I am going to replace the master switc...

Re: Couple questions from a new S70 Owner...PCV/Head Gasket?
If this is the case, what can be done? I would have to pull down the motor then wouldn't I? Or would you happen to have a trick that sometimes frees up the ring?Ozark Lee wrote:Do a compression check, this sounds very much like a stuck ring building up crankcase pressure with the blow-by.
