Re: POLL: When did your odometer fail?
Hey everyone, I'm sorry I miss informed you about where to get the odometer kit. I found out we get them from a shop in Surrey B.C. (Vancouver area) called Ed Schram Motors Ltd. They get the kits out of the states, not sure from where. Here's their web addy. More info when I get it. I Hope this help...

Re: POLL: When did your odometer fail?
Hi everyone. I work at a small repair shop and specialize in Volvos with a small Volvo auto wrecker out back. I've replaced the small rubber gear inside the 850 odometers several times now. I think my boss has been getting them from the dealer but if not, they come from Worldpac. About 50 bucks Cana...

Re: Brake Squeal WTD?
The side of the pad (longest edge, inside and outside edges) is usually always painted and cut at a 90 degree angle. You want to just remove the paint from it but not the friction material. If you do, the surface of the rotor where the pad would normally contact will rust. When the pad wears down to...

Re: 1998 v70 wet and won't run
A ha, I've seen that on the Civics before too. Check under the dash for water and possibly green corrosion on metal contacts and connectors. Water trails on dusty surfaces are a dead give-away too. You can also have someone spray the car with water while you look for where it's coming in. Ford F-150...

Re: No K&N Controversy here?
I've found over the years that the K&N can in some cases be better but with the vehicles I've seen with them in have failed due to miss use (too much or not enough oil, cleaning too often and using compressed air to dry them) For the most part, miss use seems to be the killer. I've used them and...

Re: Brake Squeal WTD?
I rebuild brakes all the time and have found that chamfering the top and bottom edges really helps(cut a 45 degree angle in the friction surface) if the pads are cut at a 90 degree angle. Also, file off the paint on the sides of the friction material because the paint is hard and will rub on the rot...

Re: 1998 v70 wet and won't run
Also, a good fuel drier additive is good to put in the fuel tank if you suspect water in there. It helps mix the water with the fuel in a way that lets the car burn it off without damaging anything, pump, injectors, etc. It's safe to use and won't harm anything. Just make sure you fill the tank with...

Re: 1998 v70 wet and won't run
I had this same problem with my 98 V70 a little while ago. It ended up being a bit of moisture in my dist cap. I learned from off-roading my old Ramcharger that a little shot of WD-40 under the cap will dissipate the moisture and get rid of the miss fire. (hitting deep water holes too fast killed th...

Re: Bevel gear removal, need pointers
Hey, good to see you got it apart. That collar I've been told by a couple of Volvo specialists can strip out due to rust build up which = big money. They told me to fire some grease in it after it's all cleaned up and don't be stingy on the amount of grease. Obviously this lengthens the collar splin...
