SRS light on
SRS light on
Anyone know how to turn off the srs light after unplugging the passenger side air bag? I was told only the dealer can do it but will it work with a good OBDII scan tool, like a Snap-On Modis or something? Or can you do it with jumper wires at the diag plug? Also, if the light is on, is the system still working or is it turned off like an ABS system with the warning light on? Thanks for any info

Unfortunately, this is a dealer only reset. I guess being it is a safety system, they don't want anyone but the dealer fixing it.
Also, when the light is on, the SRS system is no longer working so I would get it fix as soon as you can.

Why would you unplug an airbag? If a repair necessitates this then disconnect the battery first and connect it again after assembly.
The computers that are monitoring the status of e.g. airbags will not function without power, thus they will not detect that you have disconnected an airbag while making a repair and connected it afterward.

I was looking for help not criticism but for your info, I unplugged it to remove the dash pad to get at my instrument cluster. I turned the ignition on to check all the bulbs before reassembly thus setting the air bag light on.
Thank-you FCPGroton for the info, I'll take it in right away, need the fam to be safe ya know! I'm so used to working on domestic cars that are easy to reset fault codes(just unhook battery), monitors and the like that I didn't worry to much about setting a code in the srs system. I didn't know it was such a pain in the ass to reset. At least I unhooked the battery before working on it. I worked with a guy that got an air bag in the face due to not unhooking the battery, not much fun for him. He's lucky he wasn't killed.

Hi V850B5254T, I'm sorry about that too. I wasn't pissed off, I guess it's just hard to feel the mood of a conversation when it's not face to face. Thanks for the post, hope I can be of help in the future! It turns out I don't need to take my car to the dealer to turn the SRS light off. A few private shops have scanners that can do it. I'm told they're worth about $400 Canadian but they can do a lot of different stuff. I just might get one. I'll post what it is and where to get one when I find out. Thanks everyone for your input!

"Rumor has it" that there is a cracked copy of VOL-FCR floating around on Pirate Bay and that with a $15.00 Vag-Com SERIAL cable from eBay it will allow you to fix that problem yourself. It is rumored to deal with many other Volvo specific items that a normal OBD-II scanner can't deal with.
Just reporting the rumors.
