Possible new contribution to sheer bolt removal

Hello all, After starting my V70 with a screwdriver for 2 months I finally got around to replacing the ignition tumbler. There are lots of good ideas on how to get the sheer bolts out and I am hoping what I came up with helps someone as it was quick and easy. I simply took a Dremel tool with a small...

Re: Sad day, Volvo totaled!

dude-I guess that one reason we drive Volvos is safety...glad you are OK, stress and your loss notwithstanding!

Thanks for the help to many Volvo owners, including me. I hope you'll find another one soon.

Re: 1998 v70 xc losing 2 quarts of oil a day...

I second Lee's comments-I had the turbo cooler lines replaced as they were leaking, then a week later one of the new lines totally blew! Luckily I was driving slowly and saw the oil light immediately. It was amazing how much oil was pumped out in seconds!

Get the best oil lines you can.

is this JB Weld or a factory thing-ignition tumbler

Hi folks, While preparing to replace my ignition tumbler, I discovered this grey "stuff" smeared on various spots within the steering column. Should I be worried? It does look like I'll have to grind to get the tumbler out as this JB Weld looking stuff is on the tumbler assembly. Perhaps i...

Success-screwdriver started T5-now what?

Thanks everyone-super relieved to be able to move my 1998 T5. The key will only move to Position 1, so I took the cover off, pulled the electrical part of the ignition switch off and started the car with a screwdriver. I've lubricated the shift override switch, pounded the ignition tumbler mechanism...

Re: 1998 T5 won't start

Thanks-out to give all of this a try. cn90-it seems like you may have the Starter Motor and Solenoid backwards in the text? I will be jumping the red to green on back of the solonoid correct? Unfortunately my internet connection means hours for the handy download. Thanks again-will definitely have t...

Re: 1998 T5 won't start

Hi everyone, I visited the 1998 T5 yesterday and did the following: 1. Rowed the shifter back and forth 2. Lubricated the shift override button 3. took the steering column cover off and gave the ignition a good rap 4. tried 2 keys-both work in the door, and pounded them in. All to no avail. Next I w...

Re: 1998 T5 won't start

Hi everyone, Just visited the car-seems like the dreaded stuck ignition switch. The interlock button is up, steering wheel moves, but key will not go past Position I. I tried a spare key, locking and unlocking, pushing interlock button up and down to no avail. Still wondering about the interlock but...
