Thanks for the tip. It makes sense now because the light on my dash did NOT come on when my brake lights failed and has come on in the past when I've had a light out. I will hunt down that relay and report in!

Really puzzled, replaced the bulbs recently and then all three brake lights went out. I replaced the brake light switch sure that would solve the problem with no luck. Any ideas?

I ended up replacing the relay, no joy. I just replaced the solenoid, not an easy job very difficult position to get a tool into....Success! The OD is working however, the knockdown button randomly goes on, i can always hit the button on the shifter but but I think there is a short or ghost in the m...

I've replaced the Overdrive Relay with no improvement. I have noticed the Overdrive "Light" randomly coming on and will tackle the solenoid next.

Thank you for the insight. I am familiar with the relays in the console above the shifter but don't know which relay does what and don't have documentation for the car. I can check with Chilton as i have an online subscription and have no idea where the solenoid would be...do you?

To date I've managed to repair my 940 thanks to you all (brakes, e-brake, struts, strut mounts), so thank you for all the posts and pictures. The Red Baron is not shifting into Overdrive, the Overdrive button on the shifter does illuminate but doesn't affect the transmission. The light was coming on...
