Re: Engine died while driving, p0344 p0422 codes
Thanks for the info. I'm trying to locate the cps on this model; there appears to be only one, is it on the exhaust side under that engine mount? Any trick to getting it out, I couldn't find a write-up for a 1999-2002 turbo? Though I did find these posts/images: http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t1...

Engine died while driving, p0344 p0422 codes
I was driving home in the rain today when all of a sudden I was without power in my 2000 V70XC. I was raining, and has been fairly poor April weather for the last few days. I hooked up the code reader, and it is showing a p0422 and p0344 codes. The p0422 code is not all that unusual for this car, as...

Re: Lower Control Arm Replacement Frequency
Looks like Napa has Lemforder (for $269) and "Ultra-8" ($89) parts. Unfortunately I have the 4-bolt Lower Control Arm, not the more common 2 bolt, and most parts vendors only seem to carry the low end for the 4-bolt LCA.

Re: Front Strut Replacement, ,98 V70xc
If you are replacing the strut, replace the spring seat too; driving in the potholes of the North, I find they wear out far too quickly. The heavier duty ones you can get some places last longer. Once you've purchased those, you might find it useful to replace the bearing too... they are cheap enoug...

Lower Control Arm Replacement Frequency
Under normal driving, how many miles should I expect on my lower control arms? I have a 97 850 T5 Wagon, and a 2000 V70XC. On the 2000 XC, I have record of replacing both sides at ~115,000 miles with parts from IPD, I can't say if they were OEM or not, this was in September 2008. In July of 2010 I n...

Re: 850 Cranks but Won't Start
Put a meter on the leads to the fuel pump and put the key in position 2, got 12 volts for a few seconds before it trailed off. Also got 12 volts when cranking, however I didn't hear the pump operate at all. I picked up a salvaged fuel pump and installed per https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/v...

Re: Fuel pump removal made easy
When replacing the quick release fittings onto the new pump, I had a hard time getting a positive connection, so I straddled the hose bend with a 13mm open wrench and used that to apply enough pressure to get it seated properly.

Re: 850 t5 spark plugs sequence on distributor cap
The link has changed, it is now: http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how_tos/engine_repairs/plug_wiring_sparkplugs.html In case you are curious, the order on the cap from the 12 O'Clock position in clockwise order: 3,5,4,2,1 Where the block is numbered 1-5 from left to right when standing in front o...

Re: 850 Cranks but Won't Start
That's the solenoid under the cover next to the accelerator cable drum, right?
It buzzes when the key is in position 2, and for about a minute after an attempt cranking, even if the key has been removed?

Re: 850 Cranks but Won't Start
I'm unable to perform a pressure test at this time, however, I did verify that the fuel pump fuse was good. One more tidbit. When my wife last drove the car, she noticed a sputter when first starting it, and also noticed a sputter when idling at a light. I drive a 2000 v70xc most of the time, and sh...
