Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
es. As an interesting aside, the evap code always tends to come on when I pass through one particular section of a town. Fascinating observation. I doubt there is a mechanical link to your location but my guess is your driving habits are such that this location is the place your evap monitor drive ...

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
I experienced a similar situation with my 94. It ended up being the plug wires and crankcase breather. The breather needed servicing so oil had been spewing from the oil cap and dipstick. The oil made its way into the plug holes, ultimately causing the plug boots to break down and leak spark. It se...

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
I didn't replace the wires, since I believe they're from 2011-12 (and should have less than 60K on them). I'm hesitant to replace the plugs because as I noted earlier, the car is my only means of transportation at the moment, and I'm short on tools. If I overtighten, crossthread, or otherwise break ...

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
New cap and rotor installed. The car started and ran normally before changing the parts, and it continued to do so with the new parts as well. I drove it around for a few miles, and all seems well. Fingers crossed that was the issue. Attached are some pics of the the old cap and rotor. Clearly they ...

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
Cap and rotor already purchased; I'll swap them out this weekend. The wires are dated 11-04, which, if I remember correctly, means 4th week of 2011. I don't remember having them changed in the past, so I'll have to look through my records. Also, you're correct about the orientation of the conductor....

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
The circled conductor is the one I was referring to. When I had the airbox out, it didn't look like there was any oil leaking from the cam (whew!). I did notice that the flame trap housing was wet/stained, but fortunately the flame trap wasn't too clogged. I finally just decided to remove it permane...

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
As I'm looking at the image again...is it just me, or is the bottom right conductor reversed?

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
This morning (at a nice and warm 5 degrees) I pulled the distributor cap. Sure enough, it was pretty dusty and crud-filled inside. I cleaned it out as best I could with some isopropyl, and the car started on the first crank. I drove for about half and hour with no issues and no hard starts. I'll put...

Re: 96 850 NA misfires, hard start, stalls
That photo is probably a year or two old - the oil has been since cleaned up (PCV and new cap seal). Its purpose was to note that corner that is mysteriously wet quite frequently. I checked the plug cavities a couple weeks ago, and noticed that one of the plug wires, within the cavity, was clearly s...

Re: Cracked hose ID
Yep. If I remember correctly, it's mounted on the wheel arch towards the rear of the engine.
