Lee, the photo shows ECC knobs. The MCC knobs are completely different shape, and the area in question is not even round. I have a '95 850 GLT Vagen, and I just replaced broken knobs and stripped gears in the MCC (better half turned them "too far"). There is a post on Volvoforums that show...

Most likely you will need to find the cable adjustment and see if that does the trick. It is almost always located under the center console, and is likely to have an access point via a small panel inside the console storage bin.

thank god the previous owners of my 850 GLT were maintenance freaks... I just replaced the cabin air filter. It was clogged with a lot of debris, but intact. Hopefully this will cure the problem of the A/C shutting off after 30 minutes or so.
