1998 Manual Swap Cruise Control ( change starter relay on-1998)

Hi Everybody! Popping in to hopefully save someone else this frustration. I could not figure out getting the cruise control working after my manual swap in my '98 S70 T5, build date 08/97 (Sweden built car), and spent months looking for an answer. Someone mentioned this to me on VS Facebook. None of...

Fan relays are known to go bad in these cars. I would make sure you have a low speed signal when you should, and if so switch the relay out. You could also jump power to pin 1 and see if you get low speed fan.

The 2.9 NA also has the 4 speed GM. Why worry about a possible transmission problem? Yes, but it doesn't have two turbos bolted to the back of it. The problem with using a 4T65EV-GT in the T6 is that the clutches simply cannot handle the torque output of that engine. Volvo knew this going in but it...

Blue injectors in a 1998 T5

Hi all! I recently had my #3 injector fail electrically at 252k miles, so I purchased a used set of blues from a 99 C70 T5 with low miles, thinking they would be a direct upgrade. To my dismay, I immediately noticed the "blues" do not have a second ridge in them for the fuel rail clip to hold. http:...

Doesn't matter, it's just a heavier V70 GLT at that point. Turbo oil drain, rear driver's side cam seal are the first suspects in my head. Also make sure your oil cap gasket is pliable, oil can be pushed out of the top of the engine and drip down off the back of the head.

They weld spare rims/ steel wheels together for makeshift jack stands around the junkyards- they're actually fairly sturdy. Makes it easy to get parts out from under, I've yanked strut assembly's and a fuel tank for a fuel pump.

What year is your car, do you know if its the 4 or 5 speed automatic? I would suggest doing the transmission "flush" that's written up on this site- might make quite a difference. The older 4 speed autos are super reliable- one was documented to have 500k on it.

Don't give up just yet! If your angle gear is shot, remove the driveshaft and run her as a 2wd car. You can sell the driveshaft to someone who needs it, and your car will function just like any fwd 850/x70. It's a common failure- you can do without it! :)

Fifth cylinder won't fire

They have a coil on plug ignition system. if they're original to the car then voltage could be leaking out through small cracks in the plastic part going down into the cylinder-you may try wrapping it in electrical tape for a temporary fix/confirmation. You can replace that one or all of them.

My driver's window on my 1998 S70 has been making this weird scraping/grating noise going down for quite a while since it's been in my ownership. Personally, I would run from this car. The seller lists in big red letters many times "TURBO! VERY FAST CAR! TURBO!"... It can't have had an easy life. It says no accidents in the vehicle history report, but if he hit something hard enough to have to replace the fender and hood that's a little iffy....

Definitely sounds like an impeller spinning on a shaft. Pull the serpentine belt and crank 'er up. Not gonna hurt anything as the water pump is TB- driven.

Nah, not big on additives in the coolant, or oil- or any system except for stop leak in the A/C system. It's easier to worry about changing the heater core once vs. gumming up your whole cooling system with crap that solidifies in it.

What kind of Volvo? Look at the lines coming out of the pump and fill it and watch the rack (underneath the car)- hopefully its just a hose that came loose or something. Racks are expensive and time lengthy to replace; and it sometimes exceeds the value of the car. There are some additives that can ...

Fwiw, I took a look at a 99 in the junkyard. It has WHIPS (whiplash protection) and therefore will not work. Black interiors generally hold up better-every tan one I've come across in scrap yards has been absolute crap.

SIPS is not tied into the airbag system. It's just a dent thing that if you smash it it sets off the airbag. (I set off one in the junkyard) just put the orange handle between the airbag activator and the bar and you're fine to take the seats out. Good luck!

Check that coil pack. Sounds to me like it's grounding out to the engine. You could wrap the post in electrical tape and see how it runs temporarily, if that's it replace it. They all fail sooner or later...this method worked for my Jeep when a coil pack failed.

No. The compression ratio for an N/A motor is 10.3:1, for a GLT it's 9:1. See the difference? Your first application of boost=catastrophe. Not to mention the problems you will have hooking everything up. Find a 99+ GLT engine and use your turbo and manifolds; that way you won't spend a fortune. By d...
