Yes, now that the sun is up, I took a quick peek under the hood. That connects to a hose clipped to the fan shroud that runs to the purge valve located under the air intake. It is visible just at the left hand side of my first photo. As Misha stated, the valve has a 2 pin connector.

Water is a by-product of combustion. You are driving that car enough to load up the crank case with moisture, but not enough to cook it out. Moisture is very bad for metal parts and bearings. As JRL said, it will kill your car.

Re: 98 V70 NA automatic towing - how risky?

Personally, I'd rent a vehicle and spare my own the wear & tear. When I shipped my own kids off to college, I rented a van or SUV with removable seats. If you are reasonably clever online, you can get extremely low daily rates with unlimited miles. At the time I used National because you could choos...

V50 Fog lights

I've managed to get my hands on a pair of VOLVO fog lights along with the dash panel switch to upgrade my '06 V50. Will these be plug and play or will I have to fiddle with the software to get them "enabled" ?

Thanks!

Re: headlights

My '06 V50 also turns the headlights on. This apparently is normal operation, and IIRC it is in compliance with some set of auto regulations/standards. Turning it off was not a menu option and I believe it would require a firmware mod to make it go away.

I have a '98 V70 NA that is about to turn 200K. It has the original factory clutch and hydraulics. The only failure I've had was the hydraulic line between slave and master cylinders. I am also blessed with the "internal" slave cylinder.

The owners manual refers to an optional alarm feature that will sound a separate siren when the battery is disconnected while the alarm system is engaged. Perhaps this horn is the "siren" that they refer to. Those cars that lack this siren, perhaps also lack this "battery disconnect" alarm feature.

Re: Service light reset

I would be very surprised if the service interval light is anything other than a light that goes on after so many miles to remind you that the next service milestone is approaching and the owners manual should be consulted for the iems to be serviced. Now, the check engine light is a different matte...

Based on the experiences of others on this forum, when I encountered this predicament, I invested in a good quality gear puller. It still was stubborn but came off with a few minutes work.

Re: Starter fuse blows 98 V70

OK. I've completed repair of the air pump using the procedure mentioned on this web site. I used an air pump from a Saab that I picked up at the bone yard some time ago in anticipation of this repair. The donor Saab air pump worked a bit better than the VW pump mentioned in the procedure because I d...

Re: Starter fuse blows 98 V70

I've removed the air pump for repair. It had what I would describe as a couple of cups of water in it. The intake hose had a lot of water as well. I know it is recommended to replace the SAS valve as well, which I plan to do. Does the presence of all this water indicate that the SAS valve has indeed...

Re: Starter fuse blows 98 V70

I unplugged the air pump and it starts. But it started yesterday, the first time I replaced the fuse. I'll have to give it a period of time and see if it fails again. On the 98 V70 I can unplug the air pump in the engine compartment by the battery w/o going under the car. It doesn't look like it wil...

Starter fuse blows 98 V70

I have a '98 V70. When I attempt to start it, the 50A fuse for the starter/airpump circuit blows before the engine even turns over. This has ocurred twice in the last two days. My air pump needs repair/replacement and I have procrastinated on this task because it works sufficiently to pass the annua...

PCV question

I'm in the middle of a PCV replacement project on my 98 V70. I'm quite greatful for the procedures already documented by folks in this forum. But I have a question. I'm using the PCV kit from Groton. I have a 2006 V50 with about 46K miles. Recently I started to notice some noise from the engine compartment that reminded me of a power steering pump when the fluid level is low. Topped off the fluid but it didn't help. Noise gradually got louder and one day the Check engine light came on. Code was ...

Update:

A new MAF did indeed solve the problem and the car is now purring like a kitten.

I was unaware of the issues around the airbox thermostat so I checked it out. I used a hair dryer and in an un-scientific test it appeared to operate as intended.

No, you don't need to remove the crank pulley. I wrestled with that belt for the longest time with absolutely no...

I've just gone through this decision making process myself. I have a '98 V70 (140K miles) with a torn boot on the outer CV joint on the right side.
