IIRC, the entrance to the car's CAN bus is through the CEM. If that module has failed, you will be unable to start the car. I'm going to see if I can find a diagram of the power supply to the CEM. You should check the car with Vida/dice. It could be the cem that is faulty and not communicating the immobilizer codes to the ecm and vice versa. But without a high level Volvo capable scan tool, it's tough to tell.

Did you use DICE/VIDA or a generic OBDII reader? If generic, there might be codes set that it cannot read. AFAIK, the injectors are grounded by the ECU and a fuse on the other side.
