Re: White block cylinders

It's a 850 T5-R with 190k miles on the clock.
I rarely take it above 5500 rpm - but she's an old Lady, and not sure how she's been driven.
The engine has plenty of power and sounds healthy.

Re: White block cylinders

The sleeves have what looks like coarse threads, they are in fact just a spiral ridge, on the outside to assure the aluminum bonds and holds the cylinders. They can't be removed. Oversized pistons and rings are available. The cylinders pictured look to have little wear. A rotary brass brush chucked...

White block cylinders

Hello MVS, I pulled my cylinder head off, about a year ago, due to burned exhaust valve. When I did that, I felt down the cylinder, to see if everything was okay. When I did that, I could feel an increase in diameter - smooth, not rough. Looking at the picture, the "egde" was below the bla...

ZionXIX wrote: 16 Apr 2019, 06:06 You could always obliterate the cylinders and install darton sleeves.
Yeah, I'd like that, but that would blow my budget completely.
Shouldn't it be posible to bore out the cylinders and install new dry sleeves?

Re: 850 T5-R resleeve

You will have To measure the ridge and compare it the Volvo, specification of how much I see allowable To be removed for machining. Are you planning on this machining approach or putting new sleeves in? A quuick look in my alldara shows Volvo support two oversizes of cylinders and pistons, 0.2 mm an...

850 T5-R resleeve

Hello MVS, This might be a silly question, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I have a 850 T5-R, which engine needs a rebuild, do to cylinder wear. Instead of finding a new block, I've opted for keeping the original block. This means a machineshop will have to work on it, but on th...

Re: Volvo 850 T5-R Oil leak at high RPM

Quick update: Got the car on a lift today and removed the oil pan - more trouble than I thought it would be. However, there seem to be a fair amount of burnt oil in the pan which I will clean out tomorrow. But the lower PCV port was about 25% clogged, where the block meets the pan (no pictures, sorr...

Re: Volvo 850 T5-R Oil leak at high RPM

So you suggest I do the wet test as well?

My theory is that the PCV ports on the block are clogged, because I got oil in the intake hose.

Re: Volvo 850 T5-R Oil leak at high RPM

Sorry for the long wait - apparently I went into hibernation. I did the compressiontest today, I i'd say the numbers look promising: 1. Cylinder: 165 PSI 2. Cylinder: 165 PSI 3. Cylinder: 165 PSI 4. Cylinder: 150 PSI 5. Cylinder: 150 PSI This was the dry test. My mechanic friends had never heard of ...
