Re: Timing Belt Tensioner How To?

Lambo, I see you're hitting my old posts and much to my suprise I am still here. In fact just did another timing belt two weeks ago, almost three years since my last fun. Anyway, couldn't make heads or tails of what you were looking for but let me know if I can offer assistance. Quick summary: the o...

Re: 02 s60 2.4T rough idle and stuttering under throttle

Good morning I also recently bought anther Vovlo, a '06 S60 with high miles, 144,000 miles. Three days after rolling out of the dealer I was driving home and experienced hesitation and sputtering. Initially I was thinking tranny was slipping so I went to the dealer and we took it for a lap around th...

Re: Head Gasket Complete, starts, what's with the ticking?

My paranoia was just that. All is well and the ticking is gone. All my timing marks were still good and now the motor sounds great. This project was a true confidence builder and after all was said and done, only two screws were left, they were for the fan shroud which I replaced with different hard...

Head Gasket Complete, starts, what's with the ticking?

I am happy to report that with allot of help from this forum, I completed the removal/replacement of my head gasket to include a new head from Clearwater Cylinder Head. Car started all was well... I think.? Now keep in mind I haven't heard the car run since November 2008, but I don't remember the ti...

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner How To?

You were right I took a break and had my neighbor come down for a sanity check. After convincing myself that I knew what I was reading, I let him read it, looked at the routing of the belt then figured it out. The directions were perfect and worked as advertised. Looks like the Wagon will be running...

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner How To?

Calvin, man my head just exploded. But I'm sitting inside and not looking at it right now. It seems like the spring in the assembly doesn't offset the pulley enough. I am using the belt that was on on it before the head gasket crapped out. Now it looks like the darn thing shrunk a foot in the past m...

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner How To?

Ok, thanks for the instructions Ric. They seem simple enough but I have wound that thing up at least 6-8 times and the "indicator" that lines up in the "adjustment window" has not moved. Do I need to keep turning? Once again the engineers didn't care about any required maintenanc...

Timing Belt Tensioner How To?

I have the tensioner that looks more like a pulley than the "rod style" one (pictured in the Haynes Manual). How do I set that thing back in there to make it work? I see the casting marks on the engine block where the tabs set next to it with the tensioner installed. Also, there is a lever...

Re: Torquing Head, Degrees vs ft. lbs

Guess to what though? It seems that if I keep pulling it might strip. Because my monkey mind is thinking 130 degrees = 130 ft lbs. I would think that is wrong and rather go with a reference point for the torque wrench arm (lets say over the battery, to about 130deg which would be towards the ECU box...

Torquing Head, Degrees vs ft. lbs

Ok successfully extracted exhaust manifold bolts and now time to torque the head (lower section to block) Can this be achieved without an angle-gauge? I have done the 2 stage run on torques with my torque wrench now I can't find an angle-gauge to apply "degrees" for the 3rd and final stage...
