Way to bypass AC compressor pulley?

Hey guys, 2001 V70 2.4T with 193k on the clock. Background: car has no functional AC because some well-meaning guy in a pickup truck destroyed my condenser and radiator last winter trying to pull me back onto the road. I had the radiator replaced but didn't realize the condenser was killed until thi...

Re: Ocassional bizarre RPM spike while starting?

Thanks zaneallen and zanzibar for your input too. After I check the grounds, I'll consider the ECT sensor (had one go bad on my previous car so that one's top-of-mind) and/or the starter.

Re: Ocassional bizarre RPM spike while starting?

Thanks. It's rather cold here right now (Chicago area, -13F this morning; yes my Volvo started) but when it warms up a little I'll take a look at some of the grounds.

Ocassional bizarre RPM spike while starting?

Hello. I have a 2001 V70 (LPT) with 157k on it, owned since 140k. Maybe about 30% of the time, the car will take slightly longer to crank and start, with a bizarre very quick spike up to around 2-3k RPM before starting (and then going up in RPM as one would expect once it starts). The car does alway...

Re: 1996 Volvo 850 non-turbo P0171 P0103, intermittant stall

Well, after cleaning the MAF, I still got the stalling problem. Yesterday I disconnected the MAF and the problem went away. Without the MAF, the car seems to be have less power until it's warmed up, which to me would make sense. Also, it's been around -17C here the past few days. I think I'm going t...

Re: 1996 Volvo 850 non-turbo P0171 P0103, intermittant stall

Finally was able to clean the MAF today. Had a busy week of furnaces blowing up and weird stuff going on at work.

I'll see how it acts with a clean MAF, and see if the problem persists. If it comes back, I'll test the MAF and go from there.

Re: 1996 Volvo 850 non-turbo P0171 P0103, intermittant stall

Thanks for the additional input. I'll look into testing the MAF tonight. I bought some MAF cleaner last night, so if nothing else I can clean it. I'll also look into the IAC and battery terminal tonight if I have time. If I clean the IAC and it doesn't solve the problem, at least I'll have a clean I...

Re: 1996 Volvo 850 non-turbo P0171 P0103, intermittant stall

Sounds like you have a MAF problem that has gotten worse. I would look into replacing the MAF. Some have found wire issues at the connector but that is rare compared to a MAF going bad. Only use a Bosch Is there a way I could go about verifying this? A new MAF sensor looks to be about $140 (FCP). T...

1996 Volvo 850 non-turbo P0171 P0103 Stalling MAF bad??

Hello. I bought my 850 this past June, with 155,795 miles on it. Now at 163,xxx. Since then, other than oil changes, I have drained and filled transmission fluid twice, replaced power steering fluid, replaced timing belt (all components) and water pump, both air filters, spark plugs, spark plug wire...

1996 Volvo 850 Wagon automatic coasting in neutral?

Hello, I have heard it can vary on transmission design whether it is damaging to coast in neutral (engine on) with an automatic. Does anyone know if the design of the one in the 850 lends itself to this or not? I know I could save a not-insignificant amount of gas doing this, but obviously that is n...
