Finally following up on this one. I ordered a Curt hitch and it fits like a glove despite not being listed as an option for the 2001 V70XC on their site. I ordered the one listed for a 2003 V70XC.

No luck finding any new OEM Volvo fuel pump, or even a used one to steal parts from. So I did the only thing I could and got the Pro Parts Sweden pump. It looked identical to the Volvo one, so I took it apart to see if the Walbro pump I had would fit in the Pro Parts Sweden housing. Nope ...

In the photo linked above you can see the blue seal and its metal cap. Just the the left of the seal you can see the piece of broken plastic housing it came from. The other half of that housing is still stuck in that metal cap surrounding the seal.

I managed to remove the pump out of the tank, and found the problem. The top of the housing where the actual pump unit inserts has a seal held in by a metal ring. The plastic housing fractured here, letting the gas go by the seal. Makes sense: I was getting some fuel, but no fuel pressure ...

Thanks for the info! I'm well aware of the struggles in replacing this fuel pump, and knew this day would be coming but the hardest part appears to be finding the correct pump.
