I have a 2000 V70 XC that will not start. Upon investigation I found little to no pressure at the fuel rail. Hoping it was simply the fuel pump relay I removed the relay and installed a jumper wire. I can hear the pump turn on, but still get almost no pressure at the fuel rail (doesn't even move the needle on my fuel pressure gauge) and of course the car will still not start.
I also scanned the ecu and get a P1171 error code which I did not have before.
I do not believe this car has a fuel pressure regulator. Am I correct on this?
My next step is to replace the fuel pump, its original to the car with 180k miles so seems due for replacement, but they seem difficult to find. Any leads on were to locate the correct fuel pump for this car?
Thanks!
Jon

I’ll link you to the unique opportunity the AWD cars present for self improvement by tackling the fuel pump(s) job shortly
This is a 10 hour job involving either removing drive train parts or cutting a hole in the floor plan of the car, not a simple R/R like the standard Volvo FWD P80 platform.
Some details on last two pages of this thread

Thanks for the info! I'm well aware of the struggles in replacing this fuel pump, and knew this day would be coming but the hardest part appears to be finding the correct pump.
FCP Euro has a ProParts Sweeden pump listed but I'm leery of aftermarket parts. Digging over here in this thread viewtopic.php?t=100728&start=10 it looks like this pump might fit? https://www.highflowfuel.com/genuine-wa ... 2000-2009/

The original Walbro fuel pump insert , the metal part inside the plastic case is still manufactured by TI Automotive so you can restore to OE parts. Links to the part are in the above thread. GRJ444 is the part. Mine needed minor adaptation to the case due to tolerance in the plastic. Took about 15 minutes to do , 2 hours to figure out. That’s why Fora rock, that two hours the Devil stole from me , He will lose from the rest of WoManKind forever

The fuel pressure regulator on the awd cars sits on top of the tank , inaccessible without dropping the fuel tank. The regulator diverts the excess pressure to the left hand side ejector “pump” which is a non-electric Venturi which uses this excess pressure to bring fuel from left side tank to right side
Two ways to drop the tank
Remove driveshaft , viscous coupler , exhaust, and the two forward pointing torsion arms. This lets the tank sag down about 30 cm, enough to do some work on pipes and wiring.
The Volvo service procedure is to drop the entire rear axle assembly , which is 10 hours book time
Take a good look at your six rear axle mount bolts before you start the Volvo path. Those can be nasty
Each side has its own sender and the gauge reflects the sum of the two resistances

Update:
I managed to remove the pump out of the tank, and found the problem. The top of the housing where the actual pump unit inserts has a seal held in by a metal ring. The plastic housing fractured here, letting the gas go by the seal. Makes sense: I was getting some fuel, but no fuel pressure.

I also verified that the aforementioned Walbro pump fits: Its does, no problem!
Now I need to find a new/used plastic housing. Anyone have one? Failing that anyone know If I can disassemble a ProParts Sweden fuel pump assembly and drop in my Walbro pump?

I am not clear what has broken? Could it be repaired with fuel resistant glue or stainless self threading screws?

Neil,
In the photo linked above you can see the blue seal and its metal cap. Just the the left of the seal you can see the piece of broken plastic housing it came from. The other half of that housing is still stuck in that metal cap surrounding the seal.
The seal is also a bit torn, must have happened when the housing separated. I think a torn seal inside a glued housing is asking for trouble, but I'll keep that on hand as a method of last resort!

OK, now I see what has happened. Out! Can't even think how that could happen?

Update:
No luck finding any new OEM Volvo fuel pump, or even a used one to steal parts from. So I did the only thing I could and got the Pro Parts Sweden pump. It looked identical to the Volvo one, so I took it apart to see if the Walbro pump I had would fit in the Pro Parts Sweden housing. Nope, the internals are just a little bit different (pumps were different lengths).
Installed the Pro Parts Sweden pump, and it did not work! Tracked down the issue to an improperly wired plug, fixed the wiring error and pump ran fine. Sure is a noisy one!
Happy to have the car running and get get it back home I stopped to fill it up with gas on the way and noticed a leak under the tank. It was winter, and freezing, so I parked in the garage, and left it there until now.
Found the leak: Those push connectors on the fuel pump will no longer seal. Anyone have a good recommendation for a replacement push on connector?
