I'm looking for a hitch receiver that fits my new to me 2001 V70-XC, but I'm having a tough time finding one. It sounds like the OEM is the best, but that ship sailed awhile ago, and I don't need anything fancy, its just something to hold a hitch mounted bike rack. The Curt receiver I had on my 2000 V70-XC (RIP) was just fine.

In searching all the aftermarket receiver manufactures, I come up with nothing for the 2001 V70-XC, but lots of options for 2003 and later cars. I've contacted Curt and they say they have nothing that fits this car. I bet someone here knows something: Is the 2001 V70-XC that much different than the 2003+ years? What fits this car?

Thanks!

Jon

It’s strange that the chassis rails and bumper cover would have been changed. Unless it’s some exhaust hanger they revised (?).

An MVS member kindly shipped me a factory hitch he found in a salvage yard, so that’s an option.
The aftermarket ones just hang down lower under the bumper - I think the function is just fine.

That's what I thought. I'm tempted just to try one for a 2003+ V70-xc and see what I get myself into.

I'm listening if anyone's out there!

The hitches for 2001 through 2007 P2 Volvos are the same. I used the same Kurt hitch on a 2001 V70 and three of the 2007 V70 & S60 Volvos in the fleet. I believe the Kurt hitches are better than the factory Volvo hitches because you have to cut the bumper skin for the factory hitch. The blue XC70 has a factory Volvo hitch.

The OEM Volvo ones are best and are often available at the wreckers for around $40, very easy to install, no holes to drill. I've removed several. I use mine for carrying a bike rack as well! I'm going to the auto wreckers this afternoon and will have a look.

See my thread onthe Curt model. It’s a no holes drilled model, you remove the factory tow eye to put the hitch in. The hitch has a good tow eye built in, so you don’t miss it.

2nd on the Curt. I bought it at U-Haul which is just their sticker over the Curt and about 27% cheaper on price.

For wiring, see the many threads where I tell people to just use the regular 4-way plug.

Finally following up on this one. I ordered a Curt hitch and it fits like a glove despite not being listed as an option for the 2001 V70XC on their site. I ordered the one listed for a 2003 V70XC.
