Re: 2001 s40 Key problem

Glad you got it worked out. Yes, the seller should have told you. They had to have known that it wouldn't unlock certain parts of the car even if they didn't know what type of key it was. As far as the comment from the locksmith goes, I wouldn't let it bother you. However it is irritating when a &qu...

Re: 2001 s40 Key problem

It sounds like you just have the valet key. I've seen people sell blanks on the web for cheap and then you go to the dealer to have it cut and programmed. Most dealers can cut a key using the VIN# for reference. I've never done it but it would probably be easier than changing all of the locks. Not s...

Re: PCV "Helper hose". Here's an idea!

Thanks! Yes, I took the intake tube off and drilled a smaller diameter hole and pressed the hose into it about an inch. I'm eventually going to install a fitting there as well. The only things downstream from that are two hoses, one for the TCV and the other is for the PCV. Sounds like we have the s...

Re: PCV "Helper hose". Here's an idea. w/pics

I agree with the comment about the PCV. I am in the process of servicing the system. This just helps it move positive pressure better. I did this whole thing VERY carefully. I used strong magnets and a vac whenever I was drilling the hole in the filler neck. I also covered the inside of the filler p...

PCV "Helper hose". Here's an idea!

Hi there, I have had an indication that my PCV system has become inadequate or needs servicing. There hasn't been any smoke coming from the filler port or dipstick tube. Also, the glove test showed good. However, at higher RPMs during passing, the dipstick pops out of the tube about one inch. So, un...

Re: 2004 S40 1.9T B4 Servo Cover. What a pain, but worth it.

A flare is the time when the rpms jump up suddenly, between the second and third gear change. It feels like a slipping trans. It's very noticeable.

2004 S40 1.9T B4 Servo Cover. What a pain, but worth it.

Last weekend, I made the jump to swap out the servo cover. I got the kit and got ready to do the job when I noticed that the holes that you screw the supplied bolt into weren't there. That aside, it's in a crazy tight spot that most lock ring pliers can't get to. Back to the drilled and tapped holes...

Re: 2004 S40 Free Mods?

I went back with the OE temp thermostat. It's not throwing a code anymore. It just wasn't worth the hassle.

Re: 2004 S40 Free Mods?

Well, the 160 degree thermostat is installed and temp is running much cooler. Now it's throwing a P0128 code, which is coolant temp too low. I was afraid that this would happen. Now my decision will be to deal with the CEL, erase the code every two days or so, or go back to the factory 192 degree th...

Re: 2006 S40: Engine Swap

It's not too hard. It's easier with a friend to help. I've always just removed the hood. Then, it's out of the way and can't get dented or scratched if the engine hoist slips or swings for some reason.
