Have you confirmed that the oil leak is motor oil or is it ATF fluid? The heater core is most likely starting to fail. It is somewhat cheap and easy to change, however it does make a mess and preparation is the key to minimizing this. It is easier to swap out the half shaft (less work) then to only ...

That large threaded ring/plastic nut can be damaged easily if tapping it with a very large screwdriver and hammer. I got my wife to help me. She tapped on it at the same time I did. The second tap-point was of course 180 degrees from mine. It came right off on two of my vehicles that way.

The fuel pressure regulator is manifold vacuum pressure operated. So one simple thing would be to insure that the vacuum line is intact. Anything above 44psi is diverted back to the gas tank. For leak-down, the pressure should not fall below either 20 or 30 psi after thirty minutes of shutdown (I do...

Just some observations with other vehicles that I work on (not Volvo specific) The fuel pressure regulator reduces the fuel pump pressure. It usually fails in the open position. So you should get increased pressure if it fails. The check valve will have nothing to do with the real issue. It should o...

I would assume that the speed ratings are more accurate since it is a safety issue, but I would assume that the Treadwear is somewhat exaggerated for obvious reasons.

I am currently running the Goodyear Assurance Triple Treads on the Volvo and really like them. I have the Yokohama Avids on my Camry and like them as well.

Fuel door stuck at gas station

A funny thing happened to me the other day. I pull into the gas station and the attendant tells me to unlock the fuel door. Here in New Jersey you can not fill your own vehicle up with fuel. I am saying to myself WTF he is on drugs. To my surprise the fuel door does lock but it locks when the doors ...

Fuel economy is on many peoples minds lately with the abnormally higher price of gasoline. Religiously change the spark plugs, cap, rotor, & wire set every 30,000 miles. Maintain proper tire pressure. Replace the air filter at its required interval. These are the simple and common things for eve...

Buy a new arm and place a tiny dap of Anti-seize/Never-seize on it.

They make a tiny 2-arm puller for this. Wiper arms can be a real problem to remove on older vehicles.

Moisture or water is a by product of combustion. On every engine (even a new one) there is always a small amount of blow-by!! What will blow-by gases have in it
