Re: 2007 xc 70 turbo 230k miles code P

That single code is not enough to tell what the problem is on your car. Do you have the ability to see live data? What you want to look at is the activity of the pre-cat and post-cat O2 sensors. Fuel trims would also be helpful to as the code could be caused by an air leak.

Re: stripped a screw - badly

Agree with abscate. Is the bolt aluminum? They like to snap - so be careful. Torque from a wrench or vice grip may apply forces in the wrong direction.

If abscate's recommendation doesn't work, I would cut a slot and repeat and turn with a screw driver. Torque will be applied to threads.

STP filters are sub-par on a good day. You have it backwards. Use a quality filter to clean your engine, and cheap but properly rated oil. In my mind, with the price of parts at the site sponsors, it makes no sense to save $2 and buy a sub-par filter. Plan and bundle up purchase for free shipping.

Some more advice - every gas fill or two pull the oil stick and check the color of the oil as well as its level. This will give you an idea on whether the engine has been properly maintained. Re: 2007 XC 70 jerking idle and stop wont shift automatically after start for a few min

I would focus on your P0016 and 670C codes. Start by looking at the sensor(s) and the wire harness for breaks. Clean any contacts you can get to including disconnecting the harness. Pull your timing belt inspection cover and look at the timing belt. When was it last serviced? Do you have the ability...

I think you would be better off sourcing an used engine, assuming you can do the pull and replace. Too much risk that the pistons are cooked, not to mention damage to the bottom end. Well how much work do you want to do? I have repaired two worse one a 2.4T and the other a 2.9 NA. The 2.4T I just cleaned and let it be - no issues. Just some thoughtful ramblings. Vibrations caused by out of balance or warped parts generally are more severe at higher speeds and/or revolutions. I would look at your PCV system - check it for positive pressure. You may replace the seals only to have another seal start to leak b/c many times the problem is the PCV systerm is restricted.

On the XC90, from the inside of the car, remove (push up) the rubber boot where the column meets the floor. Under the boot you will find a nut that you loosen and that is all that is required. Everything in the engine bay is left alone. I don't recall if the action is pull up to release or push down...

Re: Taking a long time to build-up oil-pressure Topic is solved

As ignatz states you most likely have a problem with the oil pan o-rings. I would not drive the car until the oil pressure issue is repaired. A forum member suffered complete engine failure from a failed o-ring.

Drop the pan and replace the rings. There are plenty of posts and DIYs on the subject.

You can try pulling the connector to the alarm siren. Sometimes you can get to it by pulling the passenger side headlight and snaking your hand back there. I was able to remove mine (XC70 and XC90) leaving the exhaust in one piece. One uses the exhaust to support the drive shaft as it will sit on it once one end is disconnected. Oil in the intake is pretty normal, but it should not be excessive. With those kind of miles the turbo will be getting a bit tired. Usual sign of a turbo on its last legs is smoke out the exhaust. No. Crank if at its timing mark can only be in the correct place. Where timing can be off 180 degrees is when the cams are upside down. For finding a short one uses the Ohm scale on the VOM. One lead goes to a known ground point on the car, the other to the wire being checked. I would unhook the battery and let it sit for a bit - maybe cross the two cables to discharge the system. You can use the voltage scale to figure your power l...

You need to get a volt ohm meter (VOM) and check for shorts. If you have a short you need to find it and fix it. If you keep driving the car with the issue you could ruin the wire loom and possibly burn your car. If you cannot find any shorts - pull the wire diagram and check the relay and shunt tha...
