Don't add any kind of detergent to ATF.

I agree, it is not a good idea. Simply change (some, or all of) the transmission fluid.

I’ve run it, but only for maybe 20-30 minutes prior to doing a full gibbons-style ATF replacement. As mentioned, you don’t want cleaner type products left in the trans fluid long term. There are 2 different versions of the trans tune available: standard and hydra. I have only used the former & have only read of that version being used/recommended in the P2 Aisin transmissions, and have only read of it being used/recommended just prior to ATF replacement.

Also, it’s hard for me to say how much of a difference it has made the times I’ve used it since I replaced the entire capacity of ATF and reset my fluid counters in ViDA. What I do know is all my automatic P2’s shift beautifully, likely more due to ultra conservative fluid change intervals.

You can't displace all the fluid in the transmission, some part of it will remain inside for the life.

That’s true, but I’ve never used more than maybe 8oz pre-ATF change.

Edit: I will say that I’ve only used it 3 or 4 times, and exclusively when acquiring a car whose trans maintenance is unknown. After that initial use it isn’t repeated. It’s not like I’m using it every drain/fill or every full gibbons style flush. Also, I do drain and fills roughly every 3rd oil change, so around 12k miles 4 qts come out & 4 fresh go back in & it gets capped off with a new crush washer. :D

Unrelated (sort of), but I will say that I NEVER use a detergent in engine oil. Made that mistake once - never again.

I have used it several times. Once a full can and then a valve body service. Then on two other occasions I used 1/2 can after a drain and fill. These two cars had no issues afterwards.

There are reports on the forum of individuals using it and afterwards freeing up sticking solenoids.

My opinion, and I stress opinion, if your fluid has been properly maintained there is no need for it. If it has not been, running a full can and driving it for 500 plus miles and then doing a drain and fill would clean up some crud. If the fluid is darker than normal a 1/2 can wouldn't hurt, just shorten your change interval to 30k.

Bottom line - it is a solvent and is helpful to clean things up. It is not as good a lubricant as straight 3309, but if you have an issue you need some help.
