Re: Need Instrument Culster Bulb
It's tough to do, but the bulbs do come straight up and out of the holders. Since they were burned out on mine, I used a pair of pliers to crush the bulb and pull it out, as it is difficult to get enough purchase on the bulb with one's fingertips. Also, you can get the bulbs at a regular auto parts ...

Re: 1996 850 Tie Rod Replacement
By the way, if you are doing the inner tie rods, you'll need a special tool to get at them. I "rented" it from PepBoys, for FREE. You pay the cost of the tool (I think it was $50), then when you return it in the same condition, you get your $50 back.

Re: 1996 850 Tie Rod Replacement
The $49 rebuilt axle shaft is not from China. It is rebuilt on Long Island, NY, USA to ISO standards with a warranty. So I'm not going to assume that just because it is rebuilt, and was on sale, that it is crap. I was impressed with the quality... no play, everything done correctly, the right lockin...

Re: 98 S70 Overheats while idling
Great. So the next thing I'd suspect is some blockage in the system, or a water pump that is not efficiently cycling coolant. Do you know when the cooling pump was last replaced? It is usually done when the timing belt is replaced, since it is run off the timing belt. It has a "weep hole" ...

Re: 1996 850 Tie Rod Replacement
Replacing the CV boots is a really messy job. Grease is everywhere, and its a pain to get the CV joint off the shaft just to replace the boot. I just installed a rebuilt complete axle shaft, only $49 from FCPEuro. Straightforward, quick, and painless. So that's only $38 more than just the boot! Well...

Re: 98 S70 Overheats while idling
When the engine is cool, start the engine. Feel the upper radiator hose that runs to the thermostat housing on the top right side of the engine. It should be cool. Wait for the engine to come up to the 'normal' running temp (gauge is at center), and then feel the hose again. It should be hot, meanin...

Re: strut mount/other issues?
Gabriel makes a quick strut, which is available for around $200, so they are making a LOT of money on that repair. I used them on my V70, and it took me only an hour and I don't have air tools. You can do it, its pretty easy, and there are videos available on youtube. For a rocky rumbling sound, I'd...

Re: What to check/replace at 250k miles?
My current "experiment" car is a 2000 S70 with 248K miles, manual transmission. Here's what I replaced: - timing belt (it had never been done) - timing belt tensioner and idler pulley - water pump, thermostat, and resulting coolant flush - serpentine belt - the manual transmission oil... w...

Re: Did my timing belt just break?
It's the luck of the draw. On my "$500 experiment" car, a 2000 S70 NA, manual trans, 248K miles, I opened up the timing belt cover (four torx screws and two clips to remove the timing belt cover on the right side of the engine) and found that the timing belt was the original one for the ca...

Re: '98 V70 Headlight Issue
If you find the switch is not the problem, check the ground wire that runs to the front left hand inner fender just in front of the battery, and the ground cable that connects to the front of the transmission. On my 2000 S70, these became corroded and caused very dim lights and sometimes no lights u...
