Yeah, I figured that out after my post. I just need an front upper seat spring. What can I add to my FC Euro order to get it above $49? I'm down to one Mann oil filter. More oil filters and an air filter?

Which front top strut mount is recommended? The INA or BOGE from FCP Euro. Genuine Volvo is about $100 more than those two.

Yep, that's it. Everything looked good from underneath. I can pull the top of the strut up a good half inch or so, and spin it freely. Do I have to remove the strut to replace the top seat? https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOZ7Btien3sRwu0wK-RnyGMoGqqc5ZDbM5I6diLBPQ2pgXO-r-79mCiNweg1J4cLg?key=SXo...

1996 850 Turbo - Bad front strut.

How exactly do I tell if a front strut has gone bad? I replaced the front struts three years ago, summer of 15, with Sachs 9140072 from FCP Euro. I replaced the strut seats and sway bar linkage at the same time. Car has been off to college with my kid for a couple years. Kid came home for a visit an...

One other thing, you might want to plan on doing the heater core hoses hack (search forum). The way Volvo engineered the heater core hoses is a bit of kluge, the O-rings and plastic snap-catch parts don't age well.

I'm obliged to agree that it's an electrical issue of some type. Logic dictates that fuel supply has nothing to do with the ability of the starter to crank. 96 850 Turbo – crank 3-4 times then nothing, possibly solved

TLDR – New positive battery cable didn’t fix issue. I think the root cause is fuel system related. Current plan of action; replace fuel filter and test the fuel pump relay and fuel pump. Anything else I should look at? Car exhibited this issue last August. It would only turn over 1-2 times, then not...

Not the battery. Turns over fine 1 or turns then nothing. Dead battery, the starter solenoid would click or I would get nothing, no lights, etc. I suspect it's something with the shift shut-off switch or something like that. I can't think of what it's called at the moment.

Long story short, I bypassed the heater core when I replaced my head gasket last fall because the firewall junction leaked when I plugged in the new heater core hoses. Worked for me, did this mod last winter. FWIW I replaced the last "old" section of hose in the coolant system on my 850, the upper reservoir return, with Volvo OEM this past weekend. Pricey little piece of pre-formed hose, but it needed to be replaced.

It's even easier to replace with the turbo out and on a bench. Installed the exact same kit last fall when I was replacing the head gasket on my 96 850. I pulled the turbo to inspect at the time. I didn't know about the Mitzi OEM or go home rule when I ordered the IDP part.

Re: 1996 850 Turbo - Anyone have turbocharger install tips?

Ok... finally got the turbocharger installed tonight (another fun Friday night), all lines except for the oil inlet line. Like I said earlier a friend who owns a frame and axle business, who also works on diesels recommended I fill the turbocharger with oil before installing the top oil line. But ri...

Re: 1996 850 Turbo - Anyone have turbocharger install tips?

Yeah... I took the whole think out in one piece, turbocharger and exhaust flange. But then I had to remove the exhaust manifold before pulling the head. I've received the new IDP bypass valve parts so maybe I'll get the turbocharger installed tonight after work. Only line I'm really concerned about ...

Anyone know what these o-rings go to? They came with the gasket kit and are in their own separate bag. I think it's the "2 Installation Aid", all the other gaskets were just loose in the box except fuel injector o-rings, they're in their own bag. http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s499/StayThirstyM...

Corroded??? You call that corroded? You ain't seen corroded until you lived up North. Just bought my daughter a used car from TX, 10 years old and it looks brand new - couple winters up here will take care of that.

Well... I ordered the IDP unit earlier this morning along with some other odds and ends. Parts cost are starting to add up, but I'm enjoying myself and wrenching on the 850 keeps me out of trouble. This V band clamp you speak of, is that the clamp that holds a couple of the turbo lines together? I s...

Can this adjustment be made with the turbocharger out of the car?

As I understand the instructions the answer is yes, but then I'm not a mechanic so I have some difficulty interpreting straight forward mechanic documentation.

The shop I took my 1996 850 head to ordered a Fel-Pro head gasket kit for the valve seals. I got the opened kit when I got the head. It has everything in for gaskets as far as I can tell. The shop paid close to $200 for it, but I see the exact same kit on O'Reilly's website for $138. I searched for ...

1996 850 Turbo - Anyone have turbocharger install tips?

I'm ready to install the turbocharger on my 1996 850 project. So far the only tip I've gotten is from a diesel mechanic who said to put oil into the turbo body before installing it. I have the Haynes manual, which is what I'll go by unless someone has a better idea. Currently the exhaust manifold is...
