Voltage Regulator Removal
Yeah, how?! 2004 V70 FWD, my Victoria: 20171022_112023.jpg The head gasket replacement was a success! That is because of the invaluable contributions of this community. Thank you all so much! Now this: After sitting for two months, intermittent alternator charging on the first test drive. The fact t...

I don't know why it failed. There was no single event that I remember. I'll let it go as just plain lots-o-miles and plenty time spent at high rev... Herman, you lap the valves your self? It doesn't seem difficult, just time consuming. My gasket kit came with their seals, so they certainly need to c...

Max Head Distortion
Hello All, 2004 V70, 240,000 miles, B5244S, coolant in cylinders, head gasket transplant underway. I'm seeing about .005" max distortion on my cylinder head, between cylinders. I've read that the tolerance in VIDA is .5mm (about .020"), but that sounds wrong to people, including myself. Sh...

Re: In the cold: hard start then runs great.
Is the charging system compatible with AGM on these? My poorly qualified understanding is this: 1) AGM batteries require more careful charging voltage regulation than standard wet cells. For example, I've read in several places that magneto-type power generation, like from a lawn mower or outboard ...

Re: In the cold: hard start then runs great.
oragex called it first. Replacing the battery did the trick. Cranking time went from more than three seconds to about one. It only cost another twenty bucks to get a modern AGM battery with more cranking amps. First I changed the oil because it was about time, staying with Mobil 1, but going to 5-30...

Re: In the cold: hard start then runs great.
Thank you all for the quick replies! I'm not worthy! Now that I think about it, maybe it is cranking a bit more slowly than usual. Before I pursue battery strength and electrical connection however... I've got synthetic 10-30 in there, but I realized its pretty old. New synthetic 5-30 is my first co...

In the cold: hard start then runs great.
Hello All, I've owned my beloved Veronica, '04 V70 with 225k, for about eight months now and she's still in amazing condition. Now that the mornings have been getting colder up here in New England, however, she is having a hard time starting. Above, 50F she starts flawlessly. The colder it is from t...
