Re: Front brake piston stuck

I just did calipers and rotors on my '98 V70 a few weeks back. I went with Volvo brand rotors from FCP and loaded Centric calipers even though I know they aren't the best but would be better than what I had (and I only drive about one thousand miles a year.) Got the right side from FCP and got the l...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Heard a horrible screeching noise on my commute home, sounded like brakes on a big truck. Checked rotors, 3 out of 4 cool to touch, but LR I burned myself touching the rim spoke. Something hot back there. Loosened the bleeder screw on the caliper, and some fluid came out. Removed the old pads. Ever...

Great picture.. quite a lot of interesting mods going on there.. Can't imagine you get much life out of the tires though. ;-)
Thanks. You can't see the interior mods in that painting... like... I replaced the CEL.

Re: Loosen ANY lug nut

- I always add a tiny bit of wheel bearing grease (about one drop). This way next time it is easier. Have used this trick for 30 years. - Don't scratch the paint work with your breaker bar! - A guy on youtube used floor jack to undo the AXLE NUT and it work, see video below... cn90, good to see you...

Re: Loosen ANY lug nut

Amblerman, that was good thinking on your part. What I want to accomplish before too long is new calipers. Haven't looked at the allen nuts that hold on the calipers (under the plastic cap.) I'm having reservations... getting the calipers off may be interesting. The brake hose I can soak with penetr...

Re: Loosen ANY lug nut

Abscate, it is a Pittsburg breaker bar from Harbor Freight. Now I'm getting worried.

Re: Loosen ANY lug nut

If you really think they got torqued to 500 ft lbs replace them all. If they were just stuck with corrosion, they are fine. In that case, 30 seconds with a propane torch is a much nicer way to remove frozen fasteners. Good to see you... After a recent oil change and tire rotation I couldn't loosen ...

Loosen ANY lug nut

Loosen any lug nut by putting the jack underneath the lug wrench or breaker bar. Then jack up the lug wrench.

I tried this only after bending my original lug wrench AND bending a five foot cheater bar.

Re: Smoking dipstick, could it be bad rings?

May I ask a dumb question? What would happen if you ran an engine (in park, sitting still) with the dipstick removed?

If such a thing can be done you might be able to validate/eliminate the leak at the elbow connection.
